Does anyone know if the owner of Mr. Hamner's homeplace ever started to renovate it? I know she was waiting on funds because it was designated as a historical building. When I visited it, I was amazed at how much it was like my own home, but a bit smaller. Quite incredible that they raised such a large family in it (we only raised five) I think back in those days kids played outside more instead of sitting around playing techno games! Joanne

Hello Joanne- The last information we heard was that the Hamner homeplace is in the process of being renovated/restored. It was in need of some serious fixing up! (Foundation work, etc.) There was talk that it might become a bed and breakfast, but this proved not to be true. Hopefully when it's finished, the new owners will allow tours and visitors.

I went to Schuyler, VA last June and wasn't able to see the house. But I did see the Waltons Mountain Museum. It was so cool! I wanted to go there (this was right before my eye surgeries) just in case something happened. So, Lyle took me to "Waltons Mountain" and I got to see it. I even bought some of the "recipe" from Ike Godsey's store, as well as a Waltons T-shirt. -Kristi

To diannecreative:
I know you were asking kayen78 about suggestions of places to visit in Va. but I'll make a few if you would like. Since I'm not sure how much time you have to spend in Va. I'll start with a few that are relatively close to Schuyler and then move out from there. If you're in Va. in October, you definitely want to ride the Skyline Drive and/or the Blue Ridge Parkway to get beautiful panoramas of the autumn leaves as they change. If you hit it at the right time, the colors are magnificent. If you head north to the Skyline Drive, make sure you visit the Shenandoah Valley. It's a beautiful place with nice little towns spread throughout. If you're in the Valley, you might want to visit the world-famous Luray Caverns. Luray is a beautiful little town, one of my favorites. If you're into history like me, you might want to head east to Richmond (mentioned a lot on the show) which isn't that far away. If you're a Civil War freak like me, Richmond's the place to visit, as well as the Valley. Just north of Richmond near Ashland there is a big amusement park - King's Dominion. It has every kind of ride you can imagine. If you're into colonial history, then Williamsburg and Yorktown are the places to see. They're east of Richmond about an hour or so. If you go to Williamsburg and you like amusement parks, definitely head out to Busch Gardens - it's got my all-time favorite roller coaster, The Loch Ness Monster - "Nessie" (watch out for that first dip)! If the beach is your thing, you'll want to hit Virginia Beach (also mentioned on the show several times and where John and Olivia took their delayed honeymoon). No matter where you go in Virginia you'll find something interesting to see or do. (This sounds like a promotional ad, doesn't it? The Commonwealth of Virginia should be paying me for this.)

Hi joanne. What part of the Valley are you from? My wife and I love it up there. We try to get up there as often as we can.

To lorijean:
Absolutely. I forgot all about Mr. Jefferson and he's only about 30 miles or so from Schuyler.
