I'm just curious- there's no "ageism" angle here. I myself am 33, and I have always assumed that, as a Waltons fan, I'm a bit of an oddball. ...At least that's what my friends keep telling me.
If you ARE under 35, I'm interested in knowing how YOUR peers react when you tell them you love the Waltons.
Seriously, folks. I have friends who've never even HEARD of the Waltons! *gasp*

I'm not surprised. Most young people never even heard of the Beatles. Thank goodness I'm schooling my son in history, music, TV and movies. It's a shame we are letting our culture and history be forgotten.

Great one Lori. Yes wishing counts. Remember darling, if you are among the very young at heart.

I'm 19. Most of my friends know who "The Waltons" were, But none of them are as excited about the show as I am. Such as collecting autographs & books etc. ;D RYAN J.

I'm 21! Pretty much, if it ain't clean. (and I mean REALLY clean) it don't get watched in my household. I've got into the Waltons fairly recently. We used to watch the 1993 Thanksgiving reunion that we taped off of TV when I was little. Other than the occasional tounge-in-cheeck reference to John Boy or Mary Ellen, I really wasn't all that familier with the Waltons. My mom watched it years before I was born. In the last few years I got really aquainted with the original Waltons through the DVD's.
Many of my "peers" are aunts, family members, and co-workers who are old enough to have been around when the Waltons was first on. "Walton" discussions ususally don't come up among kids my own age.
I don't remember the exact topic of conversation, but once a friend of mine, who is a few years my junior, was naming off some long list of people. Absentmindedly, I threw in the names of Jim Bob, Mary Ellen, John Boy..... Needless to say, I got a strange look. Evidently, he had never heard of the Waltons. I shrugged and said it was joke about some seventies TV show and went on with the conversation. _sigh,... kids these days!

I just turned 30 yesterday and have been a Waltons fan since I was 24. My siblings don't watch The Waltons with their young kids. I have watched The Waltons with my cousins who are 6 and 5. They liked it. I've also showed them The Brady Bunch and a few episodes of The Andy Griffith Show (they asked if it was in color--I told them I'd bring the color episodes next time! LOL!) Anyway, I'm really the only one in my family who really loves The Waltons. When I met my fiance, I found out that he liked The Waltons too and remembered watched it when the show was originally on in the 70s. So, now I have someone to watch The Waltons with. In reality though, Waltons fans under 35 are pretty rare. I'm glad there are some here! -Kristi

I'll be 31 in a month....and I can honestly say that none of my friends watch "The Waltons". I make sure to tell them they don't know what they're missing!! My husband will "roll his eyes" when he sees me watching it...but then he sits down and watches with me!!!

I'm 23, and have loved the show pretty much since I was a little girl. I don't have very many friends in real life, but I have gotten one of my friends that I email a lot to watch the show, and she likes it. Maybe not as much as I do though.

If I could make a recommendation to all you young folks out there. The movie I suggest you see it the 1967 classic, "Cool Hand Luke". Pa Walton, Ralph Waite co-stars with, Paul Newman. It's quite an interesting collection of actors and characters. George Kennedy also co-stars in it. I think you guys really will enjoy it. Oh yes, it's in color. We did have color back then in the stone age.

That's a great suggestion! Also, I believe Richard Thomas is in a GREAT little film about a boy who is a fan of James Dean around the time he dies... Can't remember the name of it right now. I'll have to look it up and get back to you.

The name of the film in which Richard Thomas plays a boy who loves James Dean is called: "September 30, 1955" For all of you not familiar with Dean, that was the day he died in a car crash in southern california. I haven't seen the film for about 10 years or more, but I remember REALLY liking it. Then again, I'm a pretty big James Dean fan myself!
My favorite James Dean film is "East of Eden". But I'd say Waltons fans might like "Giant" better, just because it has to do more with family relationships.
What other good movies star (or co-star) cast members from the Waltons?
