To JessicaGirlSpy: I have mentioned in a few previous posts that I have known Bob Newhart since I was 12 years old. I saw him last in May, sadly, at the funeral for his beloved wife, Ginnie - who use to be my babysitter when I was young. In talking to his kids, we were talking about their Dad's last few films and they told me Bob loved making "Elf". Like easton, I'm not a big fan of Will Farrell, but this is one of my favorite Christmas movies. My parents used to say a good actor makes you believe he IS the character he is portraying. I can honestly say I believed Will Farrell WAS an elf. His scene with Peter Dinklage (a little person) who Will's character thinks is one of Santa's elves is hysterical. I laugh every time I see it! Bob is an amazing actor and it is great to know you are a fan!

I do like the movie, "Elf." And I also love Bob Newhart. Watched both of his series in first run. I also loved Suzanne Pleshette. 💗

^ It was brilliant when Robert and Emily Hartley woke up in bed together at the end of 'Newhart' when Bob was bonked on the head with a golf ball. Dallas and Roseanne erased a season, but Bob Newhart erased an entire series.
Seriously brilliant.

I love "Stranger than Fiction" I would love to see John Boy meet in person a fictional character he created I fell out of my chair LOL when he said: little did he know (third person omniscient). I don't believe he needed to die as he saved the little boy. Instead he jumped away from the oncoming bus in the nick of time. The whole plot line from the beginning remind me of the Twilight Zone stories .

PatriciaAnne, it is so great to know you liked Suzanne Pleshette. She was always known as a dramatic actress, until The Bob Newhart Show. I LOVED my Mom's 3 appearances on Bob's show. On the first one she was a patient who loved using those nerf paddles to get out aggression; her 2nd performance was as Suzanne's personal assistant when Suzanne was a school principal and her last episode was as a school board member discussing whether a book on sex education should be included in the school library. In one close up, I can see the pearl and diamond ring she left me.
These performances of my Mom were a bit out of the ordinary, since she usually played characters that were maids, nurses or nannies or roles in which she looked bad. There was a "Gunsmoke" episode that I recall, but can't remember the show's name , she looked absolutely awful! But, in the Bob Newhart shows she looked so pretty and dressed so well. It was fun to see her in those roles!
Also, I don't know if a lot of people know that the idea for that scene in bed with Bob and Suzanne where Bob dreamed away a whole show was his wife Ginnie's idea. She thought of it at a party she and Bob were at and Suzanne Pleshette was at the same party and Bob went up to ask if she would do it and Suzanne LOVED the idea - and the rest, as they say, is history!

^ It was such a surprise scene mainly because of all the publicity regarding Bob waking up in Heaven and being greeted by George Burns in his reprised role of God.
The bedroom scene was a magical moment.

It was fun to see her in those roles! It took a bit of sleuthing to track down your mother's appearances in Gunsmoke. She was in 6 episodes in all from 1956 to 1971. Gunsmoke ran from 1955 to 1975.
Robin Hood (1956) - Mrs. Bowen Love Thy Neighbor (1961) - Jennie Uncle Sunday (1962) - Mrs. Perkins Double Entry (1965) - Passenger Twisted Heritage (1969) - Ma Dagget The Tycoon (1971) - Fowler

Of course, leave it to super sleuth Easton to find the "Gunsmoke" episodes my Mom was on. I think she looked the worse in "Twisted Heritage," but "The Tycoon" was a close second! I know there was one episode Easton put on the list that both my parents were in, but had no scenes together. The only 2 series they played a married couple were on "Wagon Train" and "The Big Valley." There was also an untitled credit on a made for TV movie of "The Black Dahlia" starring Lucie Arnaz. My Mom and Dad were a couple driving a car who picked up Lucie. It was a short scene where my folks gave her a ride at the end of a scene.
I must say I was rather surprised my Dad never made a guest spot on the Waltons, as Earl was a friend since radio shows in the '40's and the E.P.'s were longtime friends. I guess Dad was not "Walton material". But it would have been nice!
A big shout out and THANK YOU to Easton!! You never cease to amaze me!

^ It would have been such fun for your father to show up on Walton's Mountain as a Scotsman who takes up temporary residence in Flossie's Boarding House. There could even be a bit of a love interest there. Such fun.

Here's the ending <vid clip went here> That's a great ending, just banged up a bit. Fun to see him taking a bite of a Bavarian sugar biscuit. (4:21) (wouldn't biscuit be more realistic given her accent. But I suppose, as an American film, cookie wouldn't confuse as many people).
