I frequently think what it would be like to live in another time and place. Be it studying history. Or watching movies or TV shows it is easy to imagine yourself there. Being a country girl who is knowledgeable in gardening and canning an cooking/baking and sewing/knitting, plus my dad has taught me basic home repairs. I also have extremely thrifty parents and budgeting is a top priority for them. I have 5 siblings (one older brother, three older sisters and one younger brother) I think I could live on Waltons mountain during the Great Depression and survive.( I certainly would want to keep my mum, dad and siblings) I don't think I would enjoy it though. I wouldn't want to rely on 1930s medical knowledge. I know I couldn't keep quiet regarding the roles and treatment of women and minorities during the 1930s.
I'm more drawn to my 19th century British lit. ( Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters, etc.) If I could hope in a time machine (does anyone have a DeLorean the can spare?) I would live to experience a Victorian Christmas. I'm also am a Regency Era nut. ( I love Jane Austen) and I would love to visit that literary world. ( I visited Austen and Dickens world countless of times in my imagination. Along with scores of other books)

^ I'm good on the DeLorean, but I'm a little skint on flux capacitors.

This is a huge yes for me. I already live in an area that is pretty quiet but not as small as Waltons Mountain and nowhere near as beautiful as Waltons Mountain. I still live in what they call the country in my area.
I also would have loved being one of the Waltons children. Even though they worked really hard they were all really respectful which is something my mom always tells me to be.

I am amazed and astounded at how many people stated they could live on Walton’s Mountain. I had but a brief exposure to “streamlined living” when we stayed at a friend’s 400+ acre homestead in Montana: hand built cabin, no running water, no electricity, outhouse near the woods, kerosene lamps, wood burning stove for heat and a lake outside for bathing!
It was glorious the first few days, but us “city slickers” began to miss indoor plumbing (especially when one of us had to visit the outhouse at 4am and you would count the eyes of the critters staring back at you!) our family of 4 sleeping all in the same bedroom, remembering to stoke the fire so it wouldn’t die; the only store almost in the next county not to mention the 2 hour drive to a town with a restaurant - I felt we did okay. Our kids weren’t begging to leave - so we stuck it out!
Seeing, literally THOUSANDS of stars in the night sky, waking up to a moose drinking from the lake 50 feet from our cabin, the family of deer at the salt lick down by the lake and spending a few hours target shooting - into a bale of hay - the way guns SHOULD be used and a sense of peace and contentment like I have never known were experiences I wouldn’t trade- but only for a while!
But, if I am honest with myself I would sadly admit I don’t think I would have done well on Walton’s Mountain. It is hard to decide if my reluctance is due to my hedonistic ways, my inability to change, my selfish delight with the latest Netflix movie or the ease of getting in my car and within 15 minutes I’m at drug store, grocery store, doctor’s office, movie theater, shopping mall or any type of food offered at an amazing array of any restaurant food imaginable!
I know my limitations, but the Waltons didn’t know anything else, so they accepted their life without question and tried to make the best life they could! But, I do wonder how they would deny themselves McDonald’s Drive Thru or Starbucks coffee - not to mention Baskin/Robbins ice cream! I mean they’re only human!!

I think when I said I would enjoy living on Waltons Mountain it was thinking of living with the Waltons family and on the television show and they way they show it off. It is different and not what I have now with my phone in my hand all the time and no internet or television which I would most likely go nuts without but the things I would have a lot of fun with is growing up in that huge family with all of those brothers and sisters. I am an only child who has been raised by my super mom all my life. I think it would be so awesome having older sisters especially and I really would have loved having Elizabeth as a sister. So for me when I answered I would love to live on Waltons Mountain it was more in the TV fantasy way then really being able to survive living like that in reality. I can't live 5 minutes when my mom takes my phone away from me. Hahaha

I was thinking of the movie "Pleasantville" where two tens find themselves trapped in a 1950s sitcom. I also was thinking of books like " Little Women and Me"where a teen finds here as the " 5th" March sister in the Literary world of Little Wonen. I was also thinking of books as Saving Juliet and Kissing Shakespeare with similar settings. All three are recommended. I also would definitely find it difficult to adjust to the 1930s. I'm definitely a 21st century girl.

I'm definitely a 21st century girl. Little Women is another one that I would have loved to be a part of the March family. Even though times were hard back then the March family was pretty well off. Still without television and my phone and the internet I wouldn't know what to do. I guess I would figure it out just like other kids who lived during those times but I just think it would have been super boring and I am one who likes to read which is something kids probably did a lot back then.

I would love to be an additional March sister and spend some time in 1860s Massachusetts. As I mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen, The Bronte Sisters, Charles Dickens, L M Montgomery, etc. I would dearly love to go into the Literary world of Pride and Prejudice and be an additional Bennett sister or the world of Anne of Green Gables, and be best friends with Anne. But, I would definitely miss all the movernight convinces and technology. I'm definitely a bookworm and that's the beauty of books. When I re-read Pride and Prejudice or Anne of Green Gables or Little Women, I'm definitely mentally transported to that time and place and I feel like many of the characters are my best friends and I have a connection with the author ( who many times is long ago deceased.)

OMG you are just like me. When I read books I get right into them. Like the Harry Potter books. I got so into them and so wanted my Hogwarts letter and getting sorted into a house and just learning all of the magic. And Oh I just love Anne of Green Gables and I also loved watching Anne With An E. I guess the teens and kids had other things to keep them occupied then phones and stuff and they didn't complain much. I guess if I didn't know any better I wouldn't have missed any of it.

I also really love Hermione and what is really funny is I have a very close name to the actress that plays her. Only one letter in our entire name is different. I got all of the Harry Potter books last year for Christmas and I love reading them.

I never said anything about no electricity and no indoor plumbing. 😮 As I recall, the Waltons had both. I guess in my case, I hate malls (hate shopping) and love being out in the middle of nowhere. We don't eat out very often (more my husband's choice than mine, but it is better for our pocketbook). I don't care for fast food places at all. And while initially I would miss TV, I know I'd get used to going without. And it would give me more time to read. I definitely don't think I could handle 7 kids though. 😲 Maybe in my version of The Waltons, I have 7 horses. 🤣

Would be what feminine hygiene options were available during that time, or the opinions and attitudes surrounding it. Having " Your time of the month" in 2022 isn't any fun, but I could only imagine what it was like in 1595, 1813,1863 etc.
