We've discussed Ralph's famous 'new pants' interaction with the Marshall boy (Michael or Marshall Reed) who was in that episode. Today, I noticed another one.
The episode was 'The Estrangement' in which Vera and baby Floyd move in with the Waltons and Wade comes into the house during the evening meal. John is sitting at the end of the table with Vera sitting at the corner to the side. Floyd is sitting on Vera's lap. The camera is aimed in Ralph's direction, shooting over Vera's shoulder. The child portraying Floyd was making little boy sounds and being ignored by everyone except Ralph who, after one of the boy's coos, looks at him and smiles.
It's rare to see adult actors with such a connection with child actors.
Can you think of any other spontaneous interactions?

^ Will was a sweet man, too, but, because of his size, he could be intimidating when he wanted to be. In 'The Prophesy', I'm sure Kami's brother, Jeff, was convinced that Grandpa was going to eat him. Still, I don't think he was as tender with anyone as he was with Aimee when she ran away from home. That was one of the sweetest moments on The Waltons. (Did she call Will 'Grandpa' after that episode?)

You can see in the show that Ralph interacted so well with the kids in the show. They said he was so funny and had them laughing so hard during the filming at the Supper Table all the time just to break up the tension because it took so long to film those scenes sometime. Somewhere, I also heard that Kami was his favorite of all the kids and in many of the episodes you could also see that.
