Was this supposed to be the girls version of Future Farmers of America?
I always think that America was built with the Ford Model T for the man and the Singer sewing machine for the woman.

I think that some of the girls at my high school (1965-69) were in there. Some had loftier aspirations.

I was in FHA when I was in high school in the late 1960s. I can’t remember much about what we did in the club. It seems like we met about once a week, usually at lunchtime, but sometimes before or after school, but I can’t remember what we did at those meetings. The club would do charitable activities like food baskets at Thanksgiving and toy drives at Christmas. We would bake cookies and take them to nursing homes and visit with residents there. In the spring we had a mother-daughter banquet. The girls in the club prepared all the food, decorated the venue (the school cafeteria 🙂), served our mothers, and cleaned up afterwards, I guess to prove that we knew how to cook and be good hostesses like good little future homemakers. We also had a fashion show, and each girl would model an outfit she had made herself. One weekend each year, we went to the CedarLakes FFA-FHA camp in Ripley, WV. Wow, I hadn’t thought about FHA for years! Later today I’ll get out my high school yearbooks and see if there are any pictures of our activities.

After high school, I went to college. I also got married and had three children. Like most women these days, I had two careers, one in my home and one outside my home.

Some attitude that I picked up in high school. Congratulations on two careers: I know that I was a lousy homemaker while going to school and maintaining a job.

I don’t want to diminish the role of women who choose the career of homemaking over any other career. Keeping a home can be a very worthwhile career. I believe Doris Hamner was a homemaker. I’m sure her influence contributed to her son Earl’s success in life, and because of that, we have The Waltons.

I don't see how women call homemaking a career. Are children widgets and women are factories? I found this definition of career. What is a Career? Definition, Paths and Examples - Indeed Career Guide The word career is often used to refer to a profession, occupation, trade or vocation. A career could define what you do for a living and range from those that require extensive training and education to those you can perform with only a high school diploma and a willingness to learn. www.indeed.com › career-advice › career-development › what-is-a-career

I think that some of the girls at my high school (1965-69) were in there. Some had loftier aspirations. Women were created for men, not men for women. Women are the keepers of the home. Now how the heck are they supposed to have more loftier aspirations than what the bible has chosen for them? Women were stuck being nothing more than wives, nurses, teachers or secretaries and the later three was after facing backlash from the religious people This is one of the reasons I was disappointed that ME got married so soon. I don't think you are rude, but I would be interested in what goal your classmates had for themselves. I think the first woman UPS driver was hired in 73 ish.

In The 11th grade in Spring,we also had a mother daughter banquet,I'm not for sure if we had to take something or if the cafeteria workers cooked the meal,I believe we had to clean up.In the 12th grade both parents got to come,I believe the cafeteria workers fixed the meal.I remember there was a program and my best friend sung. Our FHA met in between classes,we sung and done other things,I remember one of the songs we sung. There was a lot of other things that those who were in FHA done, which I didn't participate in.

Never heard of this before today. It was started in 1945. Was Elizbeth still in high school in 45? It would seem that she would have been a member. I think Elizabeth was still in high school in 1945, and if her school had an FHA chapter, she likely would have joined. She seemed to be interested in learning to cook, and she made those aprons for Olivia and Esther when she was younger. She was also a member of 4H. I think Elizabeth was an intelligent young girl who had many interests. If FHA had been around when Mary Ellen was in high school, I think she would have rejected it. I don’t have a problem with Mary Ellen marrying so young, because she never lost her independent spirit. She learned that she could take on the traditional female roles of wife and mother and still pursue her dream of becoming a nurse and eventually a doctor.

The way that the country's schools are trending, I'd say that effective motherhood (and fatherhood) is more important than ever.

I think it's wonderful that some ladies can juggle a household and a career outside of the home, no small task. What I find troubling is when women who choose to be stay-at-home moms are viewed as second-rate women by others. The radical feminist movement of today is seriously diminishing the role of motherhood, and I am afraid that it will have serious consequences in the future.
