I was watching the first episode of the two part "The Burn Out" and a couple of questions occurred to me:
1) Was this Volunteer Fire Dept. one serving Walton's Mountain or did it come all the way from Rockfish? I assume the former given who was on the VFD.
2) I noticed Ike Godsey and Reverend Fordwick were part of the VFD. But IIRC there was at least a third and possibly a fourth man who responded to the fire at the Walton's home. Anyone remember who they were?
3) Where was the VFDs fire engine stored at? Although I doubt they had a full fledged fire station almost all VFDs have at least a garage or a barn to keep the somewhat expensive fire engines out of the weather.
4) Given that in most communities the Volunteer Fire Dept. is very much the core of community culture and social life why wasn't one or more of the Walton men members of it? I would have thought at the last Grandpa would've been a long standing member.

I can't believe no replies yet. Well, to be honest, I have been watching Downton Abbey and Lady Edith has just set fire to her bedroom and the volunteer fire department came to help put out the fire. That caused me to compare and contrast the bedroom on fire vs the school on fire. I think DA was 1925 and the school fire was 1933 ish. I don't remember seeing the fire engine on the Walton's nor do I remember seeing all the extra men fighting the fire. After all that comparing and contrasting in my pea brain head, I plumb forgot to post on your post. So that is why I did not post. The others will have to say their own say on the matter.

I hadn't given it much thought, really. My mind has been preoccupied by an unexpected death in my family.
I expect that, on Walton's mountain, everybody who could see or smell the fire would have been volunteer fire fighters. I doubt if they had an organised volunteer fire department. Everybody just jumped in to help.

There would still be things like periodic fund raisers for the VFD. And training sessions. Lots of story potential there.
