We see Erin and Mary Ellen sew a dress for Rose. Elizabeth and Amy knitted sweaters (?) For Military guys they were writing. Erin either knitted or crocheted Grandma gift. How many of y'all know how to sew, knitt or crochet? I'm learning how to crochet now.

There were 7 kids in my family: 5 boys and 2 girls. Mom made sure that all of us, youngest to oldest, were self-sufficient. We could all cook, sew with a machine, sew by hand (buttons on shirts, ripped seams, etc.), darn socks, wash and iron clothes. I used to know the basics of knitting but could never follow a pattern. When I was bedridden for over 6 months back in the 80s, I taught myself how to crochet. I got into needlepoint and cross stitch for a time, too.
So...
What was the question again?

I love to crochet!! I was taught basic stitches by my aunt when I was around 10 or 11 (chain, single and double crochet). Then at age 12, I was taught how to make a granny square. For a long time I was intimidated by patterns but then about 10 years ago, I just plunged into it and mostly taught myself. I learn new stitches all the time -- if I have trouble, I find it on You Tube. I've made all kinds of blankets, baby blankets, baby sweaters and dresses, hats, scarves, wraps, etc. Oh and table runners, placemats, baby toys... probably more I'm forgetting.
Right know I'm crocheting a blanket for myself with lots of Celtic stitches, like cables.
I also like needlepoint and have a needlepoint project waiting for me to start some day. But I can't stop crocheting long enough. Lol

Right know I'm crocheting a blanket for myself with lots of Celtic stitches, like cables. I'm curious. Do you pronounce it 'KEL-tick' or 'SEL-tick'? We pronounce it with a hard 'C'.
Also, did you ever do plastic canvas needlepoint? I took it up when I was bedridden back in the 80s. I made a Christmas village for my mother. She put it up on her mantle every year. I got it back when she died in 2003 and I've put it up each Christmas since then:

I love the village!!! And yes, that's the only needlepoint I've ever done. Except I've only done wall hangings. I'll take a photo of something I made when I was 15 and post it. It's framed and hanging in my powder room now. 🥰 I pronounce it "Keltic" because I know that's the correct way. 😉

I’ve only heard it pronounced “Keltic,” Only place I’ve ever heard it pronounced “Seltic” is in referring to the Boston professional basketball team.

I keep missing a stitch here and there 😡 I want to be able to make little stockings for my kids in Sunday school by Christmas, but so far I'm not very good but I'm learning:)

If you're more of a visual learner, look for videos on You Tube. You might find a video of the exact pattern you want to make.

I crochet and do plastic canvas. My grandmother taught me how to do both. Now that grandma is no longer here, doing these crafts brings back good memories of time spent with her. I can feel her with me when I crochet or do plastic canvas.

Shes been patient with me. Always nice when you have a real person handy who can show you. ☺️ Some yarn shops also have weekly knitting/crocheting circles where you can get help as well. I used to go to one on Friday nights and it was fun. Sadly, that shop closed up a long time ago. With covid, it may be harder to find something like this right now.
