I’m not sure why it was a problem that Will Geer took the eggs home with him. I guess the eggs belonged to whoever owned the chickens, but I wonder if they gathered them regularly. Maybe Grandpa didn’t want the eggs to go to waste.

Judy talked about this in one of her videos, perhaps the 'animals' video. The chickens, like most of the other animals, were 'hired' and the man who owned the chickens usually took them home when they weren't to be filmed. On the rare occasions when he left the chickens on set, Will would gather the eggs.
