JB says that the University of Virginia is only 25 miles away and that he will go get information about attending and he and his mom will plan out his college career while she is sick in bed.
What happened to Boatwright university?
Did we talk about this already?

So rural Virginia had not one but two universities in the same area?

Charlottesville isn’t rural. Waltons Mountain was rural. I’m still not sure why John Boy ended up at Boatwright University, which isn’t even a real university, instead of the University of Virginia. In real life, Earl Hamner attended the University of Richmond, but Richmond was too far away for John Boy to be able to live at home and commute. There is a Boatwright Memorial Library at the University of Richmond, so I imagine that’s where they got the name Boatwright.

Was Mary Ellen's nursing school and Jason's Clineburg Conservatory also at Boatwright?

Was Mary Ellen's nursing school and Jason's Clineburg Conservatory also at Boatwright? Good question. I think Jason’s music conservatory was in Westham, but I don’t know if it was part of Boatwright. Didn’t John Boy and Jason ride together? I always thought Mary Ellen’s nursing school was in Charlottesville, but I don’t think they ever said for sure.

I wish we could see ME living in her nursing school dorm.

Was Mary Ellen's nursing school and Jason's Clineburg Conservatory also at Boatwright? I asked this question before sort of. Modernly colleges are a collection of schools. Schools like nursing and normal school(teacher schools), and Music etc... used to be their own organization and have nothing to do with a college. Now they do. Now we would say "I go to the school of Nursing at California State University, Stanislaus" instead of saying "I am in nursing school in Charlottetown". The last sentence implies a separate building on a separate lot. You would not have been a college graduate if you graduated from nursing school back then, now you would be.

True. My Mom went to Nursing School associated with a hospital (class of 1945). That Nursing School is now affiliated with a Community College. The other Nursing school in town is with a University.

In my head, I've always thought that the answer to this discrepancy is that the fictional University of Virginia that John-Boy visits in An Easter Story is the same place as Boatwright University, but just between the two stories, for whatever reason, the staff at the university decided on a sort of "rebranding" and changed the name to Boatright.

My dad got me hooked on Bullwinkle cartoons ( one of my guilty pleasure) Bullwinkle attended Wossamoota U. My two favourite fictional universities are Boatwright and Wossamotta U.😀

The University of Virginia isn’t a fictional university though. It’s a real university in Charlottesville that was founded by Thomas Jefferson. Maybe they decided it would be better to go with a fictional university rather than risk making mistakes and getting criticism for not portraying the University of Virginia correctly.

That's right, the gal at the help counter in the Easter Story is the same gal at the help counter at Boatright. I never noticed.
