I think you can take a tour of John &Olivia’s Bed and Breakfast Inn even if you’re not staying there for the night. Have fun!

Some places you should see when you go to Schuyler: The Waltons Mountain Museum The Walton Hamner House (boyhood home of Earl Hamner) John & Olivia’s Bed and Breakfast Inn Schuyler Baptist Church Walton’s Mountain Country Store (this was once the old shed Earl used to write in) All of the above are within walking distance of each other. Just park the car and walk from one to the other. Also: Rockfish River Dam Rockfish Post Office (not the post office in Schuyler. The old post office/train depot that is no longer in use. Not much there except the small building, but if you’re lucky, a train might go by while you’re there. I got a video of the Amtrak as it passed through Rockfish one time when I was there). That is our forum member weezer29 standing in front of the post office building at the end of the video. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know. There aren’t a lot of food options there. There used to be a Dew Drop Inn in Scottsville, but it closed. Someone else might have suggestions. Lots of good restaurants in Charlottesville.

Some places you should see when you go to Schuyler: Is the little general store still across the street from the Hamner house? It was, apparently, the inspiration for Ike Godsey and his store.

I forgot about the general store, but it’s not across from the Hamner house. It’s a short distance down the road from the bed and breakfast, and it is within walking distance too. It is a convenience store called Ike’s, and if I’m not mistaken, it was built on the site of the original general store where the Hamners would have shopped. I’ve been in there a couple of times. They sell the same sort of items you’d typically find in a convenience store, but I think they also sell some ready-made food. I have never bought any food there, but I’ve heard they have good fried chicken.

^ Thanks for the correction. There's a thread in here somewhere about it and the store and owner being Ike Godsey's inspiration.

Here’s a screenshot of a Google map of the area. The Walton Hamner house is at the intersection of Schuyler Road and Rockfish River Road. The Waltons Mountain General Store next to the house is not Ike’s. It’s the shed where Earl did his writing. There’s a little gift shop there now. The Baptist church is just down the road from the house. Going the other direction on Rockfish River Road you can see the museum on one side and the B&B across the street from the museum. Continuing on that road you come to Ike’s.

^ Visuals are always nice. Thanks for posting it.
Apparently Ike's store (there never was a real one) was owned and run by Luke Snead. It burned down and was replaced.

These videos showed up in my YouTube recommended list and thought I would add them here. It's drone footage of the area. Wish the videographer was a little more experienced and was smoother with his transitions but still good footage. Nice to see the area from this perspective. Through the comments on those videos, also found this young man with several Walton videos. www.youtube.com/c/TJElevatorfan/search?query=schuyler

Monday we went to potato chip factory, than we went where they have floats from parades, and than went an exhibit of main street window dressing, those last two were at Shenodoah Caverns, I enjoyed all of them,I recommend visiting all of them.We took Skyline Drive through Shenodoah Shenodoah Park, there were beautiful scenic views. We went Woodrow Wilson museum in Staunton, that was very interesting. We ate at a Thai Restaurant in Staunton, I have never ate at a Thai restaurant, what I got was very good. Yesterday we went Sculyar, we went in the gift shop,I got a couple of post cards,a Christmas ornament and a book by Earl Hammer, the name of it is Generous Women,it is signed by him,and a photo came in the book, have any of you read the book.I had my picture taking on the front of The Hamner house,we didn't go in it wasn't open,I would have to have went in the house,my brother in law and I went in just a little bit of the bed and breakfast. We went into the museum, there were a lot of new exhibits since I have been there last.My brother in-law talked to the lady in the museum, and she said that the one that bought the house and has the bed and breakfast bought the old school and she is going to do something with it.we didn't go anywhere else.My sister and brother in law made pictures,I'm not good at sending pictures.
