Miss Emily was certainly a bit daft!
I certainly know daft, my mum sometimes calls me her little odd duckling

One of the things I always loved about the relationship between the Baldwin sisters was how "Miss Mamie" always tried to bring "Miss Emily" back to reality from her musings about Ashley Longworth. Emily seemed to be suffering from a hint of dementia and her sister appeared to take on the "caretaker" role.

^ I think Emily depended upon Mamie to do just that, and I have a feeling that it was that way from the time when they were little girls. I don't know the realities of the situation but I have a feeling that, when one sister died, the other was soon to follow.

I love the scene from The Quilting where they are arguing about Ashley Longworth, and Mamie says, “Well, he did vanish, dear!”

I like to think that Miss Mamie and Miss Emily are related to another daft pair of sisters . The Brewster sisters from Arsenic and Old Lace.
I fear if I don't marry and if any of my sisters don't marry, we'll end up as Miss Mamie and Miss Emily!

In case you end up like Abby and Martha Brewser, I hope you won't mind if I take a pass on the elderberry wine.

There should have been a spinoff, The Baldwin Sisters Mysteries, where Mamie and Emily solve murders on Waltons Mountain and in Rockfish.

Instead of the elderly sisters, I place the stories when they were teenagers. I'll have them be teen sleuths like Jessica Girl Spy. Trixie Belden, etc. I'll include a teenage Zeb and Esther who helps them on their cases. I think Zeb was born in 1865 what year were the others born?

Grandma Walton and Laura Ingalls are around the same age. What Laura lived through was much like what Grandma Walton lived through.

What a great comparison - I never thought of it that way. I wonder if Laura became as cranky as Grandma in her old age.
