I have always wondered if the cast of The Waltons knew at the end of season nine that the show was cancelled, or did they think they'd be back for season ten?

I read Joe Conley's book real fast, stuck it in the mail to him...and now I vaguely recall he said something about their not knowing if they'd be back for season 9 or not...

Seems I remember reading that one reason the episode "A Decade of The Waltons" was filmed was because it was believed there was a good chance the show would not return for a ninth season. Fortunately of course it did.

Seems I remember reading that one reason the episode "A Decade of The Waltons" was filmed was because it was believed there was a good chance the show would not return for a ninth season. Fortunately of course it did. The reason why the show was cancellation because of the ratings start to decline. Originally, season 8 was supposed to be the final one, and ended with the special "A Decade of the Waltons". CBS gave the show a somewhat unexpected renewal for season 9, but with the caveat that the producers tighten the budget.
