As the daughter of 2 actors, I know, all too well, that acting jobs can be few and far between. Even seasoned actors may not find work easily when there are thousands of SAG members vying for the same job! About 3 years after The Waltons went off the air, I saw one of the Walton children as a clerk at a Macy’s department store. I don’t think it appropriate to release their name because that is not the point of this story and I wish to respect their privacy. I wondered if I should even acknowledge them as a “Walton child”. But this person was very recognizable and I felt sure others had made the connection to the Waltons. So, I decided to speak to them while they were ringing up my purchase. No one else was around. I mentioned my Mom played Flossie on the show and they were very sweet and said lovely things about my Mom. But I told them that I truly admired them very much to take on quite a different job than acting. With utterly no embarrassment (and OF COURSE, they should never have felt any!) they said that acting jobs dried up, no residual money from the Waltons yet, and they simply needed to make a living and help their family. It was a wonderful thing to see and I thought, a very “Walton” way to face the challenges one faces in life.

I very much enjoy your remembrances & insights of The Waltons. I wonder if you may consider keeping your wonderful threads in a subtopic such as: flossieskid corner. or whatever you'd like to call it. It would make finding your posts so much easier. I know I would look there if you made one.

Good for them for getting a job when no acting roles where available. Working with the public is not for the faint of heart. 😀

I remember a few years ago, the actor who played Elvin, the son-in-law on The Cosby Show, was spotted working in a grocery store. One of the tabloids ran a story on it. How awful to shame someone who is making an honest living.

Its good that Kami looked forward, decided what she wanted, got an education and launched a different career that kept her happy.
