As the show went on, we were introduced to cousins and aunts who would come to live in the Walton house and, of course, there were husbands and wives added to the family too. Of all the new members of the family who went on to be recurring characters, who was your favourite? That includes Corabeth, Curt, Cindy, Rose, Jeffrey, Serena, Jonesy, Paul, Toni and Janet. (I don't think I'm forgetting anyone) For me, the choice has to be Curt. He was such a good character. He worked so well with Mary Ellen and he brought something new to the dynamics of the family. I especially liked whenever we got to see that, yes, he could be grumpy, but he could also joke around and be affectionate. (PS: Curt is dead. His character wasn't ruined in Season 9. I will always just see the episode as someone who deluded themselves into thinking they were Curt for some reason, after the trauma of Pearl Harbour and Mary Ellen believes it too because it's such a surreal situation and grief can do strange things.) Who is your pick?

My favorite is Cindy. I think she was perfect for Ben, and he obviously adored her. She also fit in well with the family, well, after that first shaky introduction on their wedding night. I agree with you about Curt. He died a war hero. I disagree about your story line though. Mary Ellen was having a bad dream.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to it would be Corabeth -- with Rose and Cindy following close behind, in no particular order. I may be in the minority, but I liked Rose.

I would pick Curt hands down. Curt told it the way it is. No phonyness with this guy. Mary Ellen sure knew this cause that's why she agreed to marry him after he busted up her wedding party. I see him as the opposite of Corribeth. I never could figure out what the Curt replacement episode was all about. That guy was no JFK.

Sometimes Curt came off as really rude to Mary Ellen and it always surprised me John never stepped in

Rose is my favorite. I really enjoyed Martha Corinne and Boone. I would've loved for them to been on on a regular basis.

This leads me to ask...Should the show have created a recurring rival character for one of the leads? What do you mean? Like somebody that creates a type of tension?

Sometimes Curt came off as really rude to Mary Ellen and it always surprised me John never stepped in I guess I did not see that. ME could hold her own. People teach other people how to treat them. If your spouse dislikes you and disrespects you so much that others have to fight your battles, the marriage is already over.

Yes! and when Curt was waiting for Mary Ellen in the kitchen at Olivia and John's I recall Olivia telling them that if they were gonna argue they needed to do it somehwere else

This leads me to ask...Should the show have created a recurring rival character for one of the leads? What do you mean? Like somebody that creates a type of tension? Right. I just think a recurring rival character -- maybe a spoiled, wealthy, handsome, alpha male type -- might have generated some interesting tension-filled story possibilities. For exanple, storylines dealing with class and social status differences. Storylines showing John Boy struggling wih his jealousy and insecutiries but ultimately triumphing over his spoiled, undeserving rival. (In the Townie, Thoroughbred, and First Day, I think we saw glimpses of this tension between charcaters from different classes.) As for Curt, I unfortunately can't seem to erase that certain Season 9 episode from my mind. Maybe one day Judy will feature that episode in a behind the scenes video and explain why they decided to create a new Curt.

A recurring antagonist is a good idea. Remember Martha Rose?
My favorite addition was Porthos. Too bad he didn’t last long.
