In the dust bowl cousins, Job and Ham are crooks and theives and unrepentant. Yet the Waltons welcome them in.
Would you welcome family members you have not seen in forever that were like this?

Not knowing their character, I would welcome them in but, as soon as I learned about their petty crimes and bullying, would be showing them the door. Blood may be thicker than water, but water is easier to mop up.

Firstly, they did not know they were coming, and that they were punks. Also, Cora was worth knowing.
If they happened to me, I would tell Job and Ham what I thought of them, and tell them they are not welcome to comeback unitl they changed their spots, but that Cora was always welcome.

I wouldn't turn them away, but perhaps not make them too comfortable

No. Being family members doesn't make such people any more tolerable to me.

No, I would not. I suppose those were different times and perhaps people were kinder. My kindness has limits. I would take in immediate family members (my mother stayed with us for four months at the beginning of the pandemic.) But that's it. I also wouldn't let gypsies set up camp in my backyard or carnival employees stay in my barn. 😉

Guess I am not comfortable with it.

Guess I am not comfortable with it. I think that's a very normal reaction. Which is why I always chuckle when someone pipes up how "mean" Grandma was because she wasn't very welcoming of this stranger and that stranger. I think Grandma was the only one who had any sense! 😁

I probably would but as soon as I found out they were thieves and the son was trying to force his intentions on my daughter (If I had a daughter) they would be out on their backsides.
