The shed was many things over the years. For the first few seasons it looked unlivable. Than they move in and Cindy makes it look cozy and comfortable.
It looks like it has electric too. I know its just a show but it probably wasn't insulated. How did they stay warm?

Love! If John and Olivia could live on love I reckon Ben and Cindy could stay warm on love That shed really did have many uses. Didn't Mike stay there in the episode when he was in a wheelchair?

Great answer! Too bad the aliens came and took Cindy and her son Charlie away. I thought she was a delightful character, the perfect wife for Ben.

I always wondered how they got that huge printing press through the little door. Since John was the master woodworker, maybe they took down a wall and put it back up before John Boy came back home.

I know its just a show but it probably wasn't insulated. How did they stay warm? Jim-Bob put a bath (and basin?) in for them as a present. I presume they went to toilet inside the main house (or in a po at night). Running electricity around (in those days when I doubt anybody cared about building codes) could easily be done by running a wire over from the house (either overhead or buried).

Didn't John draw up some plans to expand it into a regular small house? This was right before Ben came home from the navy.
My personal wish of how things should have ended up is John builds the house on the mountain for him and Olivia for when she is able to come home. Ben and Cindy and their kids along with Grandma move into the main house. And the shed which was expanded to a regular small house becomes a home for Rose and Stanley. Just the right size for middle aged couple with no kids.

Ben and Cindy's home was where John-Boy's printing press was?

Ben and Cindy's home was where John-Boy's printing press was? Yes - the garden shed. It starts off small (Mary-Ellen is caught smoking dope in it in "The Dust Bowl Cousins") but then magically gets bigger when John-Boy wants to start living in it.

So last night, the Boosters episode was on. John mentioned to Ben about land he was given to build a house on.
Why were they living in a shed?

Did Ben sell his land?

I don't think so. I dozed off before the end of the show. John boy sold his for his printing press.
