When I watch the Waltons, I feel like part of the family or like they are kind of family like. I do this with a few other shows, but I notice that I never do with the Crane family from Frasier. I am wondering if it is because Frasier is a comedy and not a drama. I do feel more family with the Brady Bunch and they are somewhat comedy.
What say you? Do you feel family like with some show in a genre but not all shows in the same genre?

I always kind of felt that way with Bonanza, I think partly because of the presence of three brothers.
My father was like Ben, the strong one, leader of the family, very wise.
My older brother was like Adam, the smartest one, the one who left home first.
I was like Hoss, the big, gentle, physically strong one.
My younger brother was like Little Joe, ladies' man, but a hothead who was always the first one in a fight.
And my mother was like Hop Sing, the cook!
Miss you Mom and Dad!

Feeling like part of the Waltons for me comes naturally - I grew up in the Depression and 2nd World War, had 6 brothers and sisters, at one time lived in Virginia. But I think you hit it on the nose. The Waltons is a family drama. It's like when you hear Corabeth criticizing everyone, you take it to heart. It sounds too familiar, Other programs of the era had their equally obnoxious or offbeat characters like Barnie Fife, Archie Bunker, Seargent Carter, both Frazier and Niles, Klinger, Ted Knight and they were all funny and you laughed at them but would you feel like you were part of them? I don't think so!
