I don't think he ever wanted to be thought of as a rebel, but a radical:
"I'm a lifelong agitator, a radical," Geer once reflected. "A rebel is just against things for rebellion's sake. By radical I mean someone who goes to the roots."

Ellen Corby once called Will Geer the world's oldest hippie. LOL.

The World's oldest hippie?? LOL! That's great! I wish they had done a lot of personal interviews and Behind-The-Scenes footage with the cast so we could see what it was really like to work on the Waltons. ;D RYAN J.

I have read this before and he was a controversial, but amazing individual. I probably would have disagreed with most of Will Geer's political views but at least he had a strong set of beliefs and stood for something, which is admirable.

Let's not bring politics into this. We are all here because we have a common interest, our love for the Waltons. There are PLENTY of other websites where you can post your personal political opinions/theories on current economic issues.

"Brenda, the Forum Administrator, said that we are permitted to talk about politics as long as we are respectful of others' beliefs. "
My belief is that we should not talk about politics. Keep your political opinions to yourself. Talk about things related to the Waltons. This is where I come to talk about the Waltons not political views.
Thanks

To Carol and Brennane:
It might be best if you just ignore Wetherwacky's political posts. That's what I do, since I don't necessarily agree with his political leanings either.
To Wetherwacky:
We can't turn on the TV or pick up the newspaper any more without hearing or reading about the recession. I think most people who come here to the forum would like to get away from that for awhile. It is kind of discouraging to start reading a thread about a delightful man like Will Geer, only to have it turned into a political debate.
How about a compromise? Would you all like for me to open up a new section of the forum for political discussion only. Then all political posts could go there, and people who don't wish to read about politics could just ignore it. Any thoughts about that?

Brenda,
I think it would be a good idea to open up a new section for political only.
