I just saw this news and thought you all would be interested. Ralph Waite NEWS-After an exhaustive search, Fox’s Bones has finally cast a grandfather (or ‘Pops’) for David Boreanaz’s Seeley Booth. Hank Booth, a former army EMT, will be played by a Walton… specifically Ralph Waite, who played patriarch John Walton on The Waltons from 1972-81. Ralph, now 81, was cast after James Garner (Maverick, Rockford Files), also 81, proved too ill to take on the role. “This is an important role and when Ralph’s name came up we were thrilled,” says executive producer Stephen Nathan. “It’s remarkable to see someone at that age so vital.” Sounds like Ralph will need to be spry, considering his character will insist on accompanying his grandson out into the field to investigate “The Foot in the Foreclosure” on the Nov. 19 episode. “This is a really good murder,” promises Nathan. “All that’s left is ash and one foot, and Hank can’t help but tag along.” The episode kicks off with Hank, recovering from a bypass, leaving a nursing home after getting into physical altercations with his male nurses. “He walks out and comes to live with Booth, whom he raised,” says Nathan. “They’ll try to rekindle the life they had for so many years, but you can never quite reclaim the past.” You can read the full story here:community.livejournal.com/206_bones/2164328.htmlI don't know how ill James Garner is.... but I am a fan of his, as well... and I hope and pray he is feeling better. I have never watched this program, but I am happy for Ralph Waite. This role sounds ideal for him.

Wow, great to see Ralph Waite still going strong!
An actor's actor, most definitely.
Anyone ever see him in "The Secret Life of John Chapman," a TV movie from back in the 1970s?
I was only a child then, but still vividly recall it.

I stop in here every day. I sometimes don't see any new posts, but I always get a warm, cushy feeling as the page loads...like I'm home or something.

ssmarilyn,
I check in everday too. It just seems like the right thing to do; like I'm checking on the neighbor or something.

Ralph Waite was fabulous on "Bones" tonight. Seeing him dancing with some overweight ladies was so hilarious. He's so different when he was younger during Waltons season he and Olivia dance so beautiful but this one was so funny. Looks like he was having a great time. In case anyone missed the episode tonight so here is the link. www.casttv.com/shows/bones/the-foot-in-the-foreclosure/u8okz91

I'm watching it now... and was taken aback with how much he's aged since I last saw him on tv. This is the first time I've seen Bones and it's okay, but I think it would be better, for me anyway, if the investigators were a little older...it would be more realistic then. A couple of them look like high school kids! I'm wondering if Ralph is going to be on the show much now that he's gone back to the retirement home? When someone said he was dancing with big women, I thought they meant in an old folks home! I was surprised to see him in a nightclub! Too funny! ;D
I'll have to keep track of when this is on next. I'd like to see some more of Ralph Waite.
