I really enjoy the relationship between Grandpa and Grandma and the children and the way the children learn valuable lessons in life particularly from Grandpa. My favourite lesson from Grandpa is the one he taught Erin in The Fawn - he teaches her about the importance of freedom to a wild animal and that it is often harder to choose to do what is best for someone or something else than what is best for yourself

I like the fact Grandpa teaches the children to care about the land, trees and plants.

I like the lesson he gives about the seagull in The Journey, saying that it needs to get back to its natural habitat and that it needs help to do so. The advice makes John-Boy realize that Maggie cannot go to the seashore by herself and then he decides to take her there.

I also like that Grandpa is so knowledgeable with the natural flora. He seemingly knows the name of most all the local plants and trees and he has a good knowledge of how to care for them. I'm not going to name any episodes in particular concerning this, as it seems to regularly come up as a small subplot in a lot of episodes.

Grandpa was the perfect conservationist, he taught the kids how to harvest the timber they relied on responsibly. He was always so close to the land, and in tune with nature, as people were back then.

This is what my mother did to me with shopping, although not on purpose. She would drag us on these marathon shopping trips and I would beg her to please take us home. I would say, "Mom, I don't need any more clothes!" What young teenage girl says that??? Torture I tell you, pure torture. Now I either shop online or I "power shop." I can get everything I need inside of an hour and then I'm done. Seriously...I would rather have root canal than go to a mall.

I loved the scene when Grandpa spoke with Jason after Seth (Ron Howard) died. It was heart-wrenching to hear Grandpa talking about passing away and how it is a fact of life. Also, the talk that Grandpa had with John up on the mountain when John was struggling with whether or not to sell the mountain. He knew the burden John was carrying with having to provide for their big family. I loved every scene with Will Geer; it wasn't just the words, it was his delivery. When watching him from way back in old movies to The Waltons, his role of Grandpa fit him perfectly.
