I think we should be proud of the Waltons Forum! Other forums that I belonged to have closed down due to Facebook and lack of interest. I loved a dachshund forum but it closed because everyone went to Facebook! I am so happy that the Walton forum is still going strong. Thank you to everyone for keeping it going!

I'm a moderator on a Lord of the Rings forum and 90% of the threads haven't been posted on in two years or more. We should indeed be proud!

This forum is going strong because of many things. You need good admins & and you need good people participating and you need respect between members We have all of that here.
I was a moderator for years on another forum that had 10,000 posts a month (yes that it a lot) and because some moderators just opened the door a little bit to trollish/negative people, many came in and it became a site for people whining about whether 1992 or 1994 was a better year (and the fights they had, oh my goodness) and it became very left wing liberal and full of hate towards any religion and a whole number of people left because of that and because of people whining over any post you can think of (even non religious, non political ones)
If this board would be like that one, you'd have this type of discussion here
- I like Erin - I hate Erin -Well then you are stupid -No you are stupid, Erin is annoying, Elizabeth was nice -No Elizabeth was a pain, Erin was nice, you are an idiot -No you are an idiot -No you are -Go jump on a land mine -Go swallow anthrax
etc..you get the jist of it. Then the swearing would begin.
Forum admin wouldn't let that happen here. This place is so sane compared to other forums

I along with another woman now moderate Brenda's daughter's Frontier Girl board and it's pretty much dead. There are occasional posters but most everyone has gone over to Facebook.

This forum has slowed way, way, way down and that is what I was getting at in my post I made last spring or early summer. Hopefully we get more members who like to post. How many members do we have? There were approximately 26 members online in the last 24 hours. That is not enough to sustain us. I prefer forums (although my total time on the internet is becoming less and less) to Facebook because we can be more organized and it is easier to find things. Also, we do not get spammed here as much as Facebook does.

Back in the 90's several top notch world famous riders would visit and take time to help people. Once the stuff that Dowsee posted started happening, they left and took their wisdom with them. I don't blame them as they were treated badly by the newer posters. I stayed for a few more years, but all that were left were the mean girls. I don't even remember my passwords to see if they are still posting over there. Sad, but maybe the internet forums/Facebook had its hey day.

I never participated in chat rooms when they were the rage. I do have an account over on www.imdb.com but it is just to once in a blue moon post about some TV show, movie or celebrity info that I know is true.
This forum is the only thing I have ever participated in actively. I don't remember exactly how I ended up finding it back in 2008 except that I was searching The Waltons about something, found it and joined. I was super busy at the time with seven children (the youngest being 4 months old) so I didn't have time for it. I ended up coming back in late May 2012 and I have been on here ever since.
It amazes me what wonderful friends I have made here. As far as I know the vast majority of you all just stumbled upon this forum somehow like I did and decided to stick around...for that I am grateful. I'm not on Facebook. I've never joined it mainly because of security reasons, your account getting hacked, and the other negative stuff that I've heard or read about it. I like being able to come here and read everyone's comments about whatever the subject is, all contained in that one particular thread.
If it wasn't for this forum, I would never have met any of the Walton's cast as I didn't know anything about Carolyn's reunions. We would not have went on an awesome vacation up to New Jersey and Pennsylvania the first week of August because we would have never met Kathy Lee and her husband Mark in order to go on it. It was really nice being able to stay with them and meeting up with Cinlou/hubby Joe, patriciaanne, Uncle Coaster and Brenda/hubby Rusty...again wonderful people I would never had known if it wasn't for the forum.
I could go on and on about the great forum people I have met...Sharon (sdw), Peggi (weezer29), Marge L, Heather, Ryan James, Nicolle Wallace (Nickie), clyde, betsymartinaiani, dagmargermany, kazk, jerryboy, emeraldcity31, jimbobwaltonlover94, Big Bruno, Tracey, pabby6060, jeeeprose, timetraveler, AllAboutTheWaltons, Sharon Holmes (McConnell) and more.
There are ones here on the forum that I haven't had the pleasure of meeting...yet! I truly hope to someday though.
Plus, I have made wonderful friends at Carolyn's reunions that I keep in touch at the reunions and with snail mail that are not on this forum. Again, people that I never would have known existed if it wasn't for this forum.
Sadly, there are former members who were very active and have left and no longer post here...PLP927, MaryLou01, JeriJet, annette, wetherwacky, Nicolle Wallace and many more too numerous to be able to mention. I really enjoyed their participation and I hope they decide to come back someday. We lost a couple of them when the forum changed over to a new format some time ago...tracilynn and dfnmeows44.
I sincerely hope that we all keep this forum active for a long time to come.

I was a member of Ralph's Walton Forum and joined this one when Brenda took over. I wasn't very active at first but have participated more lately. Of course I don't think I will ever catch up to Forever!

I loved a dachshund forum but it closed because everyone went to Facebook! I am so happy that the Walton forum is still going strong. Thank you to everyone for keeping it going! I like the forum and have met so many fun and wonderful people! Plus, look at all the adventures we have had together. It is nice that we keep the forum positive and only say kind things. Life is too short to be nasty! I have a Facebook account but rarely go on it. I prefer the forum.

This is the first and only Forum in which I have participated. I enjoy everyone's posts, and have only occasionally noticed any negativity. I never take anything to heart - if I don't like the way a Thread is going, I just don't read it! I am also a fan of Facebook, and have quite a few friends there whom I "met" on this Forum. On Facebook you get to "meet" the real people and learn more about their families, activities, etc. I think there is room for both! The only Forum member I have met in person is ForeverWaltons ( and her wonderful family). However, I corresponded with several other folks when Nicki Wallace started the PenPal group several years ago. Just recently, I purchased a lovely work of art painted by dowsee's talented wife. The Forum has "introduced" me to people all over the country and the world - how cool is that?! I appreciate all the frequent posters who help keep the Forum going. May it continue for a long time!

I love this forum. We are indeed, so lucky to have such a great place to interact with others. I do find it strange, but nice, how a person can end up caring about another person even though they have never officially met. I think we have a great group here. I think Brenda does a great job keeping us in line . I would like to say right here to everyone, that I really do care about you all, and I enjoy our conversations about the Walton's and everything else under the sun!

I love Brenda's daughters' books. I have read both of them. I would love to hear more about Brenda's mama, from Rebecca's books. But I understand that she is a busy mama of 3, and writing books takes so much time. I have fallen in love with 'little' Odie. And it saddens me to know she has passed. Look forward to a time when Rebecca might continue the story.
