I think I live in the land of county and town fairs. There are at least 8 fairs,if not more, I could go to during the summer months. The closest, not only has the normal stuff like livestock, food, clothing, and plant judging, vendors, carnival rides, 4-H, but also has a rodeo. One of the county fairs in Maryland also has a tractor pull. At one county fair, every few years, I judge the 4-H dog agility show. The kids have such a good time with their dogs. It's a blast to judge. I'm also lucky enough to be about an hour and a half from the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, which is huge! Lots of good stuff there. I've never entered anything, but maybe when I retire (HAHA) I can make something to enter. I make a wicked fig jam! You had me at FIG! I LOVE anything made with figs. By the way, I have fig trees in my yard! I live not that far from Maryland. What are the fairs and when? We love fairs of all sizes. We usually go to a few smaller fairs and the big state fair in New York. There's quite a few, the one close to me in MD, is the Cecil County fair starting July 24th and runs till Aug? Howard County in MD not sure the dates. Oxford PA fair, Kimberton PA fair, Goshen PA fair, to name just a few

Are you a game and ride person or do you prefer checking out the exhibits? I like to walk around and see the exhibits, animals and people watch. I also like to see what the latest item up for sale is. The Shamwow seems to continue being popular!

I prefer to check out the exhibits. Rides and I have never gotten along. I have always gotten very nauseous on rides. I got on the tilt a whirl once with a boyfriend and I nearly threw up on him! LOL

I have never been to a county fair before. But I've always lived in "the big city" Honestly I don't even know if we have county fairs around here. Daniela..do you know?
The closest thing I guess would be small amusements park I have been to. (mostly rides and games)
Edit: I have been to a world's fair, Expo 67 in Montreal.

Have you ever attended a county fair? If so have you ever entered anything in it? Was it small like the ones on The Waltons? Our county fair is a little bigger than the ones on The Waltons. They usually have carnival rides but not this year. I have never entered anything in the fair but know people who have. Our county fair is very small, much like the one featured on the Walton's. We used to go all the time when we were younger, but not anymore. It was always preceded by a grand parade. Our girls were in 4-H and always had projects of some sort entered, so it was always fun being involved. We have always attended the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines every single year since we were married 41 years ago. However, we will break that record this year and have to miss. According to reports and articles, Iowa has one of the best state fairs in the U.S. But, I know everyone's fair is the best to them. The Iowa State Fair was made famous by the 1945 movie, "State Fair," as many know. The fair grounds is set in a park-like setting and dates back to 1879. It really is an amazing fairgrounds with many Victorian era buildings still in existence. Our 'forever lost,' awesome historical "Women's and Children's Building" was torn down back in the 1970's and caused an outrage among Iowans. It would never happen today with the historical preservationists at work!
