Are there any guest characters that anybody did like? Seems like if you were not a resident on the mountain, you were out of the likeable group.

Oh yes loads of guests I did like! the ones we don't like existed to introduce conflict and tension to the story and likewise we were obliged to dislike them I liked the German-Jewish family in The Ceremony; loved Mary Wickes (a gem of an actress) as cousin Octavia in The Hostage; Daisy; Mason Beardsley in The Visitor and Maggie McKenzie. I want to add one more dislike though; Wade's wife Vera. What an irritating woman (in both in The Conflict and The Estrangement) - They took her in and there she was lugging that baby around the Walton's house as if they were going to steal him from her.

Yes, Vera was irritating, but I didn't really dislike her. She was another one of those characters that I felt pity for. She had spent her entire life up on that mountain, sheltered from the rest of the world. She probably had no contact with anyone except those living on the mountain until she was forced to move. She found herself living in town with little or no social skills. She had no friends and no family except for a husband who was rarely at home and a young baby. It does look like she could have spent some time with Martha Corinne, assuming that Martha Corinne lived in the same town. An elderly woman living alone would have probably needed some help around the house and would have enjoyed the company. I didnt appreciate the way she blamed John Boy for the trouble between her and Wade. John Boy had shared his dreams with Wade, and had encouraged Wade to pursue his own dreams. If Wade and Vera were having marital problems, it certainly wasn't John Boy's fault.
