Did you ever notice that The Waltons had dessert after every supper? We rarely cook dessert in my house. Supper usually fills us up. Do you have dessert all of the time? What is your favorite dessert. I like warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream...yummy!

Maybe that's the way to lose weight...eat like you're saving room for dessert and then...don't have any.

There would be a riot by the foreverettes at our house if there wasn't any dessert after supper each night! It can be anything from a homemade dessert to a store bought one. I like to hit the bakery reductions and stock up. This past Tuesday I got two lemon iced pound cakes, a vanilla iced pound cake, six dozen peanut butter cookies, two dozen M&M cookies, two dozen mini iced sugar cookies, one dozen assorted doughnuts and five 12" giant chocolate chip cookies with icing. Regular price would have been nearly $88.00 plus tax. I spent $32.50 plus tax. I have it all either in the refrigerator or the freezer for later.
We all really enjoy fruit - peaches, mandarin oranges, strawberries, grapes, tangerines, and so on. Sometimes it's just one of those frozen flavored icicle pops.
My favorite dessert is blueberry pie, Edwards lemon meringue pie or some type of fruit.

We had dessert as kids. But I rarely make one now. We usually are not hungry for it after dinner. Sometimes I make one and we eat it in the middle of the day (or night) if we want a snack.

Dessert wasn't really expected while growing up. If we had it - great. It was more of a holiday and weekend treat, or if we had company over. Strawberry shortcake was a big hit in our house.
Mom made shortcake with Bisquick mix. She'd spend a lot of time picking and slicing just the right berries, adding some sugar, stirring it a lot to get the juices and sugar to create a syrup consistency... then putting it all together with whipped cream. YUM.

Mr. Forever grew up with his mother cutting up strawberries into little pieces, then sugaring them and putting them in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning it had a syrup consistency with the strawberries. They would put some in a bowl and pour milk into it and eat it for breakfast.
I make this for Mr. Forever and the foreverettes but not for myself...milk and strawberries . I like mine with just sugar on them, no milk near them unless it's for a milkshake.

Went out for supper with the husband and youngest grandson. After dinner I had strawberry shortcake with vanilla ice cream. They gave me too much and I couldn't finish it! My grandson ate some of it too!

We don't usually have dessert after dinner. Like Peggi, if we have dessert at all, it is usually a snack in the middle of the day or at night. I made an apple pie one day this week, and we still have nearly half of it. I also love warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream. When I was growing up, we usually had dessert after dinner on Sunday but rarely any other day. It was usually pie or cake. We would go to church on Sunday nights, and on the way home, we always passed by my grandparents' house. We would beg our parents to stop and see "Mammaw and Pappaw" because our Mammaw always had ice cream in the freezer and cookies in the cookie jar.

Apple pie disappears in this house. I make at least two pies when I bake and sometimes I make four pies at a time. We are a pie family that is for sure! My next door neighbor's daughter would always come knocking at my door because she knew that I always had something sweet in the house. One time I really did not have anything and told her so. She said, "Yes you do!" She could not believe there was nothing for her! We still tease her about that (she is in her twenties).

We have an Entenmann's outlet not far from my house. Some things are as low a dollar a box!

Looking back we had dessert right after supper...often it was just canned fruit. Sometimes my dad would bake a lemon meringue pie or my brother baked banana bread. My specialty was sugar cookies or something on my easybake oven . Did you have one? Mom worked shift work as a nurse so she didn't bake much but her specialty was matrimonial bars...yumm. Anyhow, I still like something sweet after supper but now we wait a while and have it with a cup of herbed tea. Hmmm...now I want something....

Dessert for us is also for special occasions.
one of my sisters and her grandson are here for the weekend. We'll all go out to lunch, then come back for dessert. I'm taking advantage of the wonderful fruit available now at the local Farmer's Market to make peach /blueberry cobbler.

Yes... easy bake ovens were fun! I've never heard of matrimonial bars! I like those bars with graham crackers, condensed milk, coconut, choc chips and chopped nuts. CRAZY GOOD.
