Yes, the one with the young Jewish soldier trying to warn everyone about what was going on in Europe when no one would believe, that was unusually powerful.

Grandma Comes Home The Empty Nest The Outsider I love the scene with Grandma, her broom, Cindy and Ben. "Old Fool! Young Fool!" The Unthinkable The one with the Jewish soldier friend of Jason's who tells of the holocaust. The Last Ten Days The Inspiration Miss Mamie needs cataract surgery and is afraid to do it.With Grandma's help Miss Emily convinces her to do it The Valediction The Pledge. I like how Mary Ellen fights to get into pre-med

I was thinking the other day when I was watching The Beau how enjoyable it was to watch Ellen Corby act--even when she couldn't speak. I love the look she gave John when she came home from her date. I wish she could have played a bigger role in more episodes, but I guess it was too much for her. I wonder if it also took the joy out of it for her after Will Geer passed away.

Not that she wasn't heartbroken by his death, but according to what a poster said about Ronnie's book, Ellen was jealous Of Will.
I wouldn't be surprised at that, You can tell Will just threw in a lot of stuff in about every scene he was in, and it worked most of the time. I wouldn't blame her if she felt he was trying to upstage her. I doubt that was really the case, but you know how SOME PEOPLE are...

But she began her career as a script supervisor and I'm sure was extremely disciplined and followed the script word-for-word. I'm sure all the ad libbing that Will did annoyed her to no end. I do not like the episodes in the post-Richard years. John-Boy was such an important character and the series just was not the same without him. I tried watching some of the episodes without Richard and I just could not watch them. I ended up turning off the television.
This pretty much sums up my feelings about the episodes without Richard Thomas: Simba: What about that shadowy place? Mufasa: That's seasons 6 though 9 of The Waltons. You must never go there, Simba.

Rather the case for me, too. If Mary Ellen says "John Curtis" in the first thirty seconds, I know that I won't be watching.

This was so funny! I can watch the post - Richard ones that still have Will, Michael, and Ralph. Even after we lose Will, it's still a comfort to have Michael. It gets much more difficult when she's not on.

when Ralph left, it was over.
THOSE episodes are tough to watch.
"Jonesy" was pretty good
I m sorry, no way are John and Olivia leaving Jim Bob and Elizabeth. They would be going with John at the very least.
They should have killed off Olivia when Michael said she wanted out.
could you imagine if Will was alive for the whole series?

They should have killed off Olivia when Michael said she wanted out. They should have had a mass murder visit the mountain and kill off everyone once Richard Thomas wanted out.

Olivia was ill and had to go to a hospital to recover. It's understandable that the family couldn't go with her. Jim Bob was a man. He was out of high school and had served in the military when John left. Elizabeth was 14 or 15 and was the only one who needed an adult around at times but not like she would if she had been a small child.
