Here is an old photo of the town square in my hometown. Also, I included a photo of our courthouse that was built in 1879. This was actually the 6th courthouse, the first was made of logs in 1796 and the other 4 were built at different locations; the 4th was the first one made of brick. The 5th was destroyed by fire in 1878. I have great memories of this courthouse since it was a great spot in which to watch the annual Christmas parade. In 1999, it was destroyed by an F3 tornado which also destroyed most of our historic downtown. Instead of demolishing the building and starting over, the town decided to restore and reconstruct the historic structure.

In my home town this was the church we attended. It was first built as a Presbyterian church but later became United. The black and white is a picture when it was the former. We lived down the block from it and would walk to church. My dad was also a local carpenter and on one occasion he was hired to reroof the church. My dad was a ham and he secured himself to the church spire and when ever one of the matron ladies walked by he would swing from it. They would all scream and yell..."Lloyd George Wallace ( they always used your full name when you were in trouble no matter what your age) you get down from there now before you fall and break your neck". The colored picture is of how I remember it from my youth.

I grew up in the Bronx. The apt. building I grew up in was built in the 1960s. I'm pretty sure that in the 1930s, that was all farmland. Too bad it didn't stay that way. I would have enjoyed living there then.
