Hello. I'm new to the forum and I have a question. Has anyone been to The Walton's Mountain Museum lately? My wife and I are planning a trip (our first) to Schuyler, VA and we are hoping to visit the museum. Thanks.

Hi Rich, Several of us were there in October or November. I don't know if anyone here has visited since then or not. What questions do you have about it?

Rich Your first trip to Schuyler! You will love it! I have been there. What would you like to know? It will be open this Friday, 2/26/15, if you feel like going tomorrow!

My first question is if the museum is still open, which as I see it is. Also, where are the closest places to stay near Schuyler? I'm not too much into B&B's so I would be looking for a motel. Thanks.

Hi, I have been to the museum for several times. Here is the website of the museum for detailed information. They also have information for lodging. I would recommend the Village Inn in Lovingston where I have slept for many times. It is a family owned small motel and very clean and quiet. www.waltonmuseum.org/villageinnlovingston.webs.com/Enjoy your trip to Schuyler !

Just note that the museum is closed in the winter! Check the website out to see when they are open.

I agree with Dagmar about the Village Inn in Lovingston. I have stayed there a couple of times. It is a small motel, very clean, comfortable, and convenient, located along US Rt 29, and it's probably the closest motel to Schuyler. Otherwise, Charlottesville has a large selection of hotels/motels.

I know that you do not know what was available in 1939, but does it seem like it is. Does the show seem truthful about a dearth of public lodging?

Also, while you are there, go to Charlottlesville and see the sites there. Monticello, Ashlawn Highland, Mickie Tavern, and other historic sites. Plus, lots of antique shops, winery tours, great restaurants, etc. Also, can't beat the scenery. If you have time, spend a little time driving on Skyline Drive and maybe stay the night at Big Meadows or Skyland (check to see if they are open).

Great! All of you have given me some very interesting incites. We will be going most likely in May so the winter months won't be a problem. The Village Inn sounds just like what I am looking for; I will check it's website. Thank you all for the suggestions and who knows maybe we will see some of you.

We did the Skyline Drive about 3 years ago and I believe it was in May. What a wonderful trip we had but at that time we weren't aware about Walton's Mountain being so close. So we are going to go back this year! That will most likely be after we go to Mt. Airy, NC (Mayberry) and see what's going on down there.

Rich, my husband and I drove to Florida a few weeks ago, and we stopped at Mount Airy on the way. It was interesting and fun.

That's where my husband and I met Kathy Lee and her husband. We became friends very quickly. She introduced me to the forum. We've had great fun on the forum and on outings. Life sure opens up a flood gate of friends here. Welcome.
