Did anybody notice the sequence of actors for the Patsy Brimmer character?
Most know that there were two actors for the character, but I did not notice until watching “The Best Christmas” that the actors are swapped out several times. It is not one actor who plays the role for a few years and then goes away and the other actor takes over.
It starts with Debbie Gunn in the Wedding and then Eileen McDonough in the Great motorcycle race and then back to Debbie Gunn in The Best Christmas, back to Eileen McDonough in The Hero, and back to Debbie Gunn in Spring fever which is the last that we see of the character.
Do we know why this was done?

Do we know why this was done? The sequence the episodes were filmed in were not necessarily the sequence they aired in. It may have been that one actress was available, as awesome suggested, and did a couple of episodes. Then finding her not available, went with the other for the other episodes. It seems to me, having a look at the numbers of the episodes, that Eileen McDonough was the first cast as Patsy Brimmer, in The Great Motorcycle Race. Debbie Gunn then did two later in the season: The Best Christmas and The Wedding. Eileen then returned in The Hero. During the season/times these episodes would have been shot, Eileen was doing a number of other shows so perhaps it was just that she wasn't available when Patsy Brimmer was needed. Perhaps she had a contract to do two eps but they decided to add more eps for that character, which Eileen couldn't fulfill. We do know for certain that it was Debbie Gunn who came back in the following season as Patsy. I did wonder if it might have something to do with directors or writers but I can't really find a link there either.

Didn't they switch out Jody ?
Todd bridges actually was on there twice.
(The episode Verdie's daughter came back )
Now wasn't the episode where Jody plays the trumpet between the two Todd bridge's episodes ?
I am probably wrong though
How many jodys were there anyway ?

Jody first appears as Harley's son in "The Roots" Season 2 Ep. 5. This is the episode that has Verdie, Harley and the Walton children picking peaches and Verdie has her eye on Harley. Jody is played by Erin Blunt. Yes a boy named Erin.
Jody next appears in "The Fighter" Season 4 Ep. 3. Cleavon Little plays a fighter trying to start a church. Erin plays Jody.
*Jody is played by T.K. Carter in "The Festival" Season 6 Ep. 16. Jason and Josh want to play a festival. Jason on the piano and Josh on the trumpet.
Jody last appears in "The Hot Rod" Season 9 Ep. 12. Jim Bob and Jody make a hot rod out of Jim Bob's car. They end up opening a auto repair/garage together. Jody is played by Charles R. Penland.
Josh first appears in "The Stray" Season 6 Ep. 2. John Sr. and Jim Bob find Josh hiding in their barn. John and Olivia want to adopt him but know they can't because of the times. Harley and Verdie take him in. Todd Bridges played Josh.
*Josh next appears in "The Festival" Season 6 Ep. 16. *See above for episode description. Josh is played by James Bond III.
Josh is in "The Illusion" Season 7 Ep. 8. Verdie's daughter Esther returns to the mountain disillusioned about trying to find a job with a college education. Josh is played by Todd Bridges.
Josh last appears in "The Prodigals" Season 8 Ep. 17. Jeffrey and Josh steal from Ike's store. The Baldwin Sisters have their recipe machine taken away but Ike helps them figure out a way to keep making the recipe. Josh is played by James Bond III.
I got to meet T.K. Carter, Erin Blunt, James Bond III and Charles R. Penland at the 2012 Walton's Reunion in California. I got their autographs. Todd Bridges was scheduled to appear but did not show up. I never heard why he didn't make it.

The Outrage is the title of the episode where John gets a pardon for Harley. It's also the episode where the Walton family goes to Charlottesville to pay their respects to President Roosevelt as his funeral train goes through town. Josh was played by Jason Moses in that episode.
