When the Walton's began their TV run I was about 9 years-old and when I'd chat with my friends in the first couple of seasons we'd play the "Name all of the Walton's children's" game.
When we played, once in a while we'd forget a name, sometimes two. For me it was always Ben, because he was the only boy whose name doesn't start with the letter "J". Sorry Ben.
Which name did you forget? or Which Walton's kids name is more likely to be forgotten compared to the others? Of course, in this scenario, cousin Oliver doesn't count (oops, wrong show)

I always forgot Erin. I liked her character, but her name was short, while Mary Ellen's as well as Elizabeth's name were easier to remember.

I wonder if it is because the character Ben wasn't given much to grab onto during the first several seasons.... All of the other children had more interesting character traits and seemed to be more involved with the family, etc. The show let Ben have his "moments" but they were much fewer than for the others, I think.

I always sort of felt that way about both Ben and Erin, that the other characters were given more of a personality in the beginning. John Boy, of course, was a writer, Jason a musician, Mary Ellen was an outspoken tomboy, and JimBob and Elizabeth were the babies. Eventually they all developed their own unique personalities, and Ben became my favorite character among the children. I don't think I ever forgot any of their names, however. I do know that Erin was quite the popular baby name back in the 1970s. My son was born in 1978, and he went to school with several Erins. Before The Waltons, I don't think I personally knew anyone named Erin.

Ben and Erin were sort of stuck in the middle. With 2 brothers known for their artistic talents and an outspoken tomboy sister older than them. And the 2 babies of the family younger than them.
