As most of you know, a documentary is being filmed about the life of Earl Hamner. This is a project which I think is long overdue, and I'm glad someone is finally doing something about it. We can help make this happen. If you click on the link or the photo of the Walton house in winter at the top of the forum, it will take you to a donation page. That page will explain what they need the money for. There are several "perks" offered depending on the level of donation. You will get a copy of the DVD if you donate $35. A DVD autographed by Earl Hamner can be yours for a $55 donation. There are other perks offered as well which are described on the donation page. If you can't afford those amounts, then give what you can, or share this information with others on your Facebook page or other social media. If enough people give just a little bit, the money can be raised. Here is a very entertaining video from Michael McGreevey, better known to Waltons fans as Hobie Shanks. Please watch it for more information.

I saw the video on Facebook and was inspired to contribute. I think it's a fabulous idea and I can't wait to see it come to life.

For those who don't follow The Waltons Remembered on Facebook there is a bit of a discussion happening about the funding of "Earl Hamnner - Storyteller". It may address some of your questions or concerns about contributing to the project. www.facebook.com/groups/TheWaltonsRemembered/permalink/728476993899144/Also, I have created a webpage that collects much of the information about the film in one place. www.allaboutthewaltons.com/storyteller-doc.htmlThis project very much still needs our support to be successful. Only about 150 contributions so far and only a little more than 10% has been raised of the total required and only 16 days left to the campaign.

I supported this endeavor a couple of weeks ago. I have purchased the DVD to be autographed by Earl Hamner. I am shocked that only 14% of the goal has been reached. I read online about people constantly wanting another Waltons movie...if they all just contributed $5.00 a piece, the goal would have been met quickly and with plenty left over. I wonder if it's disappointing to Mr. Hamner that it has not been supported adequately. I also wonder what might suffer in the documentary if the goal is not achieved?!?

I know for a fact that Earl is following this very closely and is bothered by the lack of support.
If the project does not reach its goal there is a possibility that the filmmakers will have to choose less clips from the various TV shows and films that Earl wrote. It may come down to only the interviews and new footage that was shot with Earl and no clips at all.
There is the possibility that it won't be aired on TV and they may not be able to do the high quality output to correct the color and sound issues that make films a more enjoyable and seamless experience for the viewer.
On the other hand all of this may come to pass but it will come out of the filmmaker's pockets who have already been donating all of their time and money so far to get the film to the editing stage. Most likely they will loose money on this project. Even the eventual broadcast fees they receive won't cover their costs. Selling DVD's might not bring in much money either. So far they have pre-sold less than 150 DVD's despite a significant marketing effort. That is not a very promising prospect for the financial success of this project.
The final impact is what it will mean for the possible production of another Waltons Reunion movie. The people involved in this production and potential broadcasters are watching the fan response closely. There is no point making another reunion movie if only a handful of people show any real interest in helping to get it done. The reality is, is that The Waltons is 40 years old. It is not a current TV show with millions of active fans like Game of Thrones or Big Bang Theory which pulls in millions of views every episode which can be used to convince advertisers to support the cost of production. This documentary is in essence a fan film made by fans and needs the support of fans to become reality. If there is no fan support then there won't be anymore fan generated projects going forward.

I think fans of "The Waltons" as well as Earl Hamner are a dying breed, unfortunately.... Even if 2000 avid fans each donated $100, that would only be $200,000 and I doubt if that would do the job.... maybe.
Perhaps an all-out campaign to interest anyone who loves old tv shows in general would get more response.... limiting fund-raising to just The Waltons/Hamner may be the problem....
Wonder if anyone has used Twitter to get the word out -- that seems to work in many cases.... but possibly not with older folks who are the fan base and not necessarily Twitter users....
Just pondering.

Perhaps an all-out campaign to interest anyone who loves old tv shows in general would get more response..... I've thought of that approach as well but I don't know where to find groups like that. I have looked but I think the Internet has allowed for everyone to create their own niche interest. Even though there is some cross over say with the Little House crowd they aren't necessarily going to respond to a Walton thing en masse.

I also bought the autographed DVD, and I would give more if I could. There are over 21,000 people in "The Waltons Remembered" Facebook group. I realize that some people can't give, but if most of those people would just donate a small amount, the funds could be raised.

I wonder how much funding is actually required.... If people had one of those "thermometers" to watch grow, it might help.... Unfortunately, if the goal is next-to-impossible, few would contribute, not wanting to "waste" their money. Just so hard to know if the project is at all viable.... Where can more contributors be found ? As with a reunion movie, I suspect there may not be enough fans left anymore. All those people, who don't know what they're missing....

The amount of funding they are trying to raise is $125,000.00 - That is certainly doable if enough people would contribute just the lowest amount of $5.00 It is only at $18,083.00 right now, 14% of the goal. There is just 14 days left.
I wish it was reversed - 86% of the goal - $106,917.00 raised so far.

I'm amazed that $125K is all they need -- Good News! -- that should certainly be doable

I'm so sad about this. I really hope a miracle happens and they can get most of the funds raised by the deadline.
