Wow. I remember him, the nice 'Englishman' who took Mary Ellen out on a date in that episode. I am beginning to become unshockable with regards to the big names being revealed as paedophiles, it is happening so much these days and I applaud it. I recall Mary McDonough revealed in her book that a member of production crew targeted her on a daily basis for a long time when backstage, forcing her to kiss him and this was in the very early days of the show and she was very young. It's like a matter of trying guess who is going to be named next?

I hate hearing stories like this. Nobody should EVER have to deal with unwanted sexual, romantic attention. Ihave at work but thank God all that ended up happening is nothing. Add me to the shocked list.

I thought this too when I first heard about this, but the article I read said that it was his ex-wife that recorded the conversation. Her attorney told her to bring up the subject to Stephen and to record the conversation. Supposedly this was entered into their divorce proceedings.
So sad to hear about this. I have always enjoyed him as an actor. He was recently in two TV series that I watched - "Falling Skies" on TNT and "Revolution" on NBC. I met him back on September 29th, 2012 at Kami's Walton reunion in Los Angeles. I carried on a small conversation with him and got him to autograph a recent photo of himself and one of him from the episode of The Waltons that he was on.

It will be interesting to see how this goes forward.... the article doesn't make things very clear.... at least, it appears that he hasn't been a chronic abuser.... I know we "learn" on various tv shows that "once an abuser, always an abuser" but maybe that isn't necessarily always true.... I hope he "experimented" a couple of times years ago and never again.... not that any such behavior is ever understandable.

The article states that his wife secretly recorded the conversation. Isn't it illegal to record a conversation without the knowledge and consent of all the parties involved?

I believe it is, but it doesn't make his confessions any less disturbing. I can't believe she felt right staying with him once she knew. You just don't know what lies beneath someone's exterior.

No it doesn't make it less disturbing but he could escape conviction or even being charged at all on the technicality that it was recorded without his consent.

I know that the counselor is supposed to keep things that the client says confidential, but I think he or she also has a legal obligation to report child sexual abuse to the authorities. I wonder if that was done.

legality of the taping depends on what state it was done. Some states only require that one person know of the taping. In others all those being taped must know.

I believe he was investigated in 2012, but time had apparently run out for the victims to come forward. There should be NO time limit for this type of crime. We're talking about kids for goodness sakes. If they come forward at all, it's a miracle. I have a tough time believing that these were the only times he did this.
