I found it to be like dish soap, sorry. We get it, andy -- through 5 postings now.... You're not gonna change differing opinions. I think most of us would rather be allowed to just enjoy the episodes.

I agree with Jeri Jet and the others and actually enjoyed Robert W's take on John-Boy. I would like to meet him someday, having already met Richard Thomas. Here's hoping!

If they let John Boy die during War World II,when the last three Waltons Movies were on in the 90ths,Richard Thomas wouldn't have been in those movies,or in the last movie in the 80ths Robert Wightman wouldn't have been in it.I just thought of that yesterday. They could have bring him back from the dead in those movies, but I think it would have been weird,or even that he never did die.

Carolyn Grinnell has his contact info. She invited him to the California reunion in 2012 but it was declined.

Well, if they had let jb die during the show and then brought him back for the movies, JB could have been like the Pied Piper with Curt, Virginia, Charlie, John Curtis, Chance, Blue, Myrtle, etc... all following as they hiked down from "THE MOUNTAIN" , hollering to the whole family "Surprise" we are not dead or missing.

Good point !
And, I think they also would never kill "Earl" off !!

Ahhh.... so, we do know how to find him.... trust Carolyn to know !! I suppose attending a reunion could pose a problem for some of the actors in many ways....
Did anyone ever track down the actor in The Genius ? -- name escapes me right now (but I bet it won't escape YOU!)
And, there were a couple of other actors who couldn't be found, weren't there ?

Dennis Kort played Lyle Thomason aka the genius. He's a professor somewhere in California. It was our own Nicolle Wallace who found him. She even found a photo of him.
EDIT: I remembered incorrectly on this about Nicolle, please read further on in this thread for my correction. It's on page 3.

I agree with most of the opinions here, but I'll add this: I don't think Wightman took this role with the intention of trying to be a mirror image of Richard Thomas. It seems that every time I watch these episodes, I'm impressed by how he tried to make the role of John Boy his own. Very intimidating given the shoes he had to fill, and the extraordinary talent he continues to be compared to.

If John-Boy's dead, who's been narrating these stories since Day One???

If they let John Boy die, would that mean Earl Hamner died as well? Wouldn't this create a space-time continuum paradox resulting in the destruction of the universe, or at the very least resulting in Cora Beth becoming the reigning empress of Walton's Mountain, potentially Jefferson County, and possibly even the state of Virginia itself? Boggles the mind to even think about it. I need some recipe.

I remembered wrong! Heather (dewlanna) had started a thread about finding Dennis Kort. Someone who called themselves 'Schuyler' replied to the post and told of his whereabouts and also posted a photo of him from 2012. From there I believe Nicolle tracked him and found contact info and forwarded it to Heather. I don't know if Heather has had any luck with a response from him or not.
Here's the photo of him, it is the second posting on the page:
