You chose the body part it goes on. Or should we have a Walton's members poll here to decide for us We could all have a "beauty mark" tattooed on our left cheeks - FACIAL cheeks that is, to mark us as John Boy followers . . . . ( I already have a beauty mark on my cheek. Don't tell anyone )

I thought about getting one when I turned 30, but I chickened out. I'm not real big on pain, so I passed. It was going to be a few small musical notes and a treble clef near the bottom of my calf, near the ankle (but not ON the ankle). I think one or two are fine, especially if they have a special meaning, but lookin at too many - hurts my eyes!

It is not so much the pain (but who likes pain) but more having to look at that thing for the rest of my life that would drive me batty! I love watching those tattoo shows where people have really horrible tattoos and they tell how they got them. Then they get the bad tattoo covered up with a new giant tattoos! And, the people always love their new giant tattoo! I always think, "you really like that thing?"

My brother had one done while he was in Cancun. He says it's a dragon, but it looks like ivy, climbing up his arm! I always ask him when he's going to add a few pink roses to his trellis.
My friend had the cartoon penguin, Chilly Willy tattooed on her behind when she turned 30. One of these days, she says, she's going to give him a hat!

I saw a teenager with a giant sun tattooed on his chest. Imagine what that will look like when he has a bit of a pot belly!

I like them if they are touched up and not allowed to fade into greenish black icky-ness. I don't know. I have family that has tattoos, and I don't look down on them for it. I play with the idea of what I would do all of the time when it comes to getting a tattoo. It has changed so many times that I don't think I actually need one. I don't want piercings either, except for my ears.

And, what I think was great at twenty would have me thinking at thirty, " what the blank, blank was I thinking!!!!!"

It really doesn't hurt at all, as long as it's done in a "fleshy" part of the body.... the "science" has improved dramatically over the years.
And, for those who think tattoos don't "age" well -- you're right ... but you won't care, as there are many far worse "senior" things to worry about.... and the sagging tattoo will at least bring back fun memories.
Added a few minutes later -- Forgot to mention that many tattoos are more likely to become "hidden" on seniors, by virtue of covering up one's body more anyway !!

Rats -- also forgot to mention that I was just short of my 58th birthday when I got mine !! Brought a drawing in to the "best" tattoo parlor (asked a few people) in my area -- and the "artist" kept it to the small size I wanted, and improved the drawing quite a bit.... I love it and just wish I could see it

I was going to have a bust of my husband tattooed on me after he died. But the only good tattoo artist we had in this area (that I would have trusted and was a perfectionist in his craft as well as a clean freak about his shop) is no longer around. I would still do it if I found someone that good again.

I don't really like tattoos. They seem to be a fad that will pass and date people. I guess sailors used to get them but I don't remember seeing any of my elders with tatoos. I can't believe how people get every imaginable part of their body covered with them. I have even seen people with tattoos on their eyelids. How is that possible?

Even at my age, I'm doubting that tattoos are just a fad -- using cosmetics was supposed to be a fad, too, and so was tv !!
FYI, my older sister had her eyelids tattooed so she'd have permanent eyeliner, and a year later had eyebrows tattooed on -- at about ages 73/74.... frankly, I still can't believe it -- because it just didn't seem like her to do anything like that.... and it's not the kind of thing I'd ever do.... little pictures I can understand.
I wonder if she'd be upset if I attached the email photo she sent me ??!! ... oh, man, it's tempting
