Yes, we will be driving again this year. If we stop for bathroom breaks, lunch, gas and there is no major traffic problems, then it takes between 8 and 9 hours.
About the same for us.It is about five hours for us.

We are leaving home two weeks from this Tuesday and I am getting so excited to be a part of this wonderful reunion for the very first time! I am looking forward to leaving the Midwest (flat land, corn and soybeans!) for a while and head for the mountains again! I LOVE the mountains in the east. I have our trip routed out and motels booked. I was bound to get us up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of the trip and got the access/exit points figured out yesterday. It's been years since I've driven the parkway and remember the beauty so well. I couldn't help but be reminded of one of my favorite episodes, "The Conflict," when this parkway was being built and Martha Corrine and her family were being displaced. I read an informative but rather sad article online yesterday of the distress all the mountain families experienced so America can enjoy this beautiful parkway today. See you all soon! Started making my pile of things to bring. Have not got the suitcases down yet. In New Jersey the leaves are still green with a few red maples here and there. It think the color will still be there for us in October! See you soon!

If you get on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Waynesboro it will be the Blue Ridge Parkway going south and Skyline Drive going north. Same road, two different names. Blue Ridge Parkway is free, Sklyine Drive has a fee. Skyline Drive goes through the Shenandoah National Park that is why there is a fee. Great road. Can't go wrong in any direction!

It is about 10 hours for us (Montezuma, NY to Lynchburg, VA). We will start out Thursday and spend the night somewhere in Pennsylvania, probably Chambersburg. Then head to Lynchburg on Friday.

We are starting out the night before also and staying in Charlotesville. This way we can have all day Friday to sight see a bit as we drive to Lynchburg. Maybe a few antique stores or something else that looks fun.

I was just thinking. Do you think the Earth will tilt a little with so many people converging on Virginia? LOL!

Our leaves here in the Midwest will probably be at peak by this weekend. Our river valley was gorgeous today on my morning drive into the city. I am really hoping for a lot of autumn beauty as we drive further to the SE. I purchased a new camera last month and an anxious to try it out on some glorious Virginia color!

We'll be in Covington, VA the night before and will take our time and poke our way those remaining 100 miles or so into Lynchburg, enjoying the sights and scenery as we go.

I think Brenda and I have the shortest drive. I wish I had more time and did not have to go right back home. The next weekend I have a four day weekend. Would have been nice to stretch the visit out longer.

Jan, I just saw a post saying you were coming from Iowa. Where about in Iowa? My hubby is from Iowa and I am originally from Illinois. Hi weezer....We live just a few miles just north of Des Moines in the small town of Madrid, which is pretty much a suburb of Des Moines and West Des Moines anymore with all the growth. We are in Boone County. Where did your hubby come from in Iowa? Hubby is from The Quad Cities, Bettendorf. I have a niece in Ames at Iowa State, and a niece who just graduated from there last May.

Sure, I am familiar with each Iowa town, especially Ames. We've been to Bettendorf before, even stayed there, and Ames is close to us. My hubby went to Iowa State for a while, a great university with diehard Cyclone fans! Illinois is a great state as well! We LOVE Galena, which is just 3-4 hours from us!
