Now there's a thought: Grandpa comes back from the dead! Why, the plot practically writes itself.
Yancey is charged with taking the body to the undertaker, but he instead sells it to an evil dwarf from the Big City -- Rockfish or Charlottesville, whichever. The sad, closed-coffin funeral involves some stolen chickens in the casket.
In an isolated spot on the other side of the mountain, The Mad Doctor (who was booted out Boatwright U. for teaching that humans are descended from apes) uses lightning to revive the corpse.
But he is careless, and Zebenstein, now played by Vincent Price (it could work, check my avatar pic) escapes, mounts a wild horse and returns to the Walton home. He's hungry for human brains, but as his first victim is the Reverend Fordwick, he may be out of luck.

I've seen it a few times.... wonderful movie !!
On ANTenna this morning, they're running Geer's "Billion Dollar Hobo" (1978) -- probably the last film he made.... recording it for viewing later today.

Zebulon comes back to life, restored to his youth and portrayed by Michael Landon. He travels around the modern world in a car with his new friend Mark (played by Victor French) and uses the name Jonathan Smith.

This TV show didn't seem to mind having different actors playing the same character (2 John-Boys, 2 Curts) What if someone else played Grandpa after Will Geer died? I'm thinking disaster if they did, no one could replace Grandpa. Don't even go there! But that's just my opinion. Any thoughts? Someone want to have me put away for even bringing this up? Thank goodness it never happened .

Perhaps after a particularly scorching nag from Esther, Grandpa faked his death so he could run away with the flirty old lady from the village. (That grave they're always talking to contains a big sack of sawdust.)
