In my opinion, Yancy Tucker was a bit of a rogue who hovered on the shady side of the law. He was loveable, but did not exemplify the type of family values generally promoted by The Waltons. I think the writers were a bit afraid to appreciate him too much! To me, Rose was the character most to be pitied on the Waltons. Always cheerful and willing to help everyone, poor Rose received very little praise or return affection from most of the other Waltons characters(with, of course,the exception of Stanley Perkins). It was almost as if they considered her hired help instead of a valued family member.
Hmmm.... interesting point about Rose -- and, yes, I agree she wasn't treated very well by the family, now that I think about it.
