Ralph Waite played Jackson Gibbs on NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service). He was the father of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) on the show. The last episode Mr. Waite was in was "Better Angels." It originally aired on 11/15/2013. The majority of the episode has Mr. Waite in it. It is a very powerful episode and I think that it is so fitting that this was his last episode on the show before he died. If you decide to watch the repeat (rerun) of this special episode tonight on CBS, you will see exactly what I mean. It comes on at 7:00 p.m. CST.
NCIS's season finale is on 5/13/2014. Showrunner Gary Glasberg and the writers are working on something special to address the passing of Ralph Waite in the season finale, to honor both the memory of Mr. Waite, as well as the character of Jackson Gibbs.
"Better Angels," summary: Gibbs and the team are investigating the death of a Marine who was killed while a robbery was being committed. Gibbs gets a call from the police telling him that his father (Ralph Waite) was in an accident and he was taken into custody and his driver's license was taken from him. Gibbs leaves and lets Tony and McGee work the Marine case. Gibbs learns that his father was trying to see someone who saved his life during the war (WWII) and since his father can't legally drive, he takes him. When Gibbs and his father arrive at the destination, he finds the person his father wants to see is not there. Gibbs wonders if his father is losing his mind.
Trust me this episode is very special - if you want to see Ralph Waite doing some of his finest acting ever, you will not miss this episode.
How fitting that this is my 2,000th post on this forum. Trying to honor Mr. Waite.

I watched it again tonight. Such a good story. It made me think about that Walton episode where a German POW befriended Jeffrey. Both stories remind us that just because a person is on the opposite side from you in a war, they are still people just like you are.
