Guess who I spotted? Yep, Flossie Brimmer! This time on an old black and white episode of Gunsmoke (S6, Ep 20). She plays the mother of a 12 yr old boy who gets killed. He was accused of stealing potatoes from the neighbor. A feud ensues. She has a much younger face. All the men in this episode are long time western show regulars including Jack Elam (plays her husband) and Warren Oates (the neighbor son).

Ellen Corby plays "Luther's Teacher" in The Ghost and Mr Chicken (starring Don Knotts). She's got a really fun side roll I'm that.

John Crawford played Commissioner Ferris on Star Trek TOS The Galileo Seven. The one where the shuttle crash-lands on a hostile planet when Spock is in command. I remember he was also in the The Poseidon Adventure.

Crawford was a versatile character actor, and spotting him in supporting roles -- in movies as well as just about every TV series -- down through the years could be a full-time job!

I'm watching Bonanza on Encore Westerns and the main characters of this episode (S13 Ep 13) are Will Geer playing Mitch Vogel's (Johnny Johnson from Little House), grandfather. Both are great actors and this is definitely an episode worth watching. Grandpa has grey hair and bushy sideburns, but no moustache. Jamie (Mitch Vogel) eventually gets adopted by Ben Cartwright, making him the fourth Cartwright son.

I love the story in Jim Garner's recent autobiography wherein he mentions his relationship with Crawford and explains how Crawford taught him to "speak to" the camera as if it were a person -- said Crawford helped him more than almost anyone else

He probably beat 'im with a coat-hanger to make his point. Sorry, sorry . . . that was Joan Crawford. Never mind.

View AttachmentI was watching the old movie, North by Northwest today (in Sydney Australia) and Flossie Brimmer played a housekeeper who opens the door to admit Cary Grant and his 'mother' to a house, and then she goes to get the lady of the house to attend to the guests.

Spotted a young Ellen Corby (1966) tonight in a movie called "Night of the Grizzly". She wears pants, button up shirt and vest, just like a cowgirl. She is a neighbor of Clint Walker and sells him 3 cows, some pigs and some chickens. Also in the movie is Don Haggerty (father to Dan Haggerty; The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams). They look so much alike. Jack Elam is also in the movie as well as Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane Hathaway from the Beverly Hillbillies). It was nice to see Grandma so young but still tough as nails but she didn't have a harsh tone of voice in this movie.

I saw 2 Walton's stars tonight on TCM channel. First, a very young Ellen Corby playing a housemaid in the 1947 movie "Born to Kill". She had a very soft, lilting voice. Nothing like her voice in The Waltons. A side note: The star of this movie was Lawrence Tierney, the bad boy/gangster/mobster of that time (on and off screen) or for those of you who enjoyed Seinfeld, he was Elaine Benes' dad, Alton Benes. Then I watched "Back to Bataan" (1945) starring John Wayne and Anthony Quinn and there's Beulah Bondi who plays a school teacher teaching in the Philippines. Although she is 56 yrs old, she is thin and dark haired but still has an older look for her age. She has several scenes with John Wayne.
