I get the Blue Ridge Chronicles which is the official publication of Walton's Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Virginia. There is a short article about how co-producers Ray Castro and Tim McAbee and their cameraman visited the museum this past February. They are part of a team making a documentary film based on the life of Earl Hamner, Jr. Not sure when it will air. Can't wait!

Ray has mentioned it on Facebook. I hope it is shown on a channel I get. This is long overdue! I always thought the history channel should feature Earl Hamner in an episode of Biography. I even emailed them about it, but I got no reply.

If they do it, I hope it's with his approval. I had read he had a falling out with the museum and that's one of the reasons he won't come back to VA for a reunion (that and the fact that trip might be a bit much at this point).

I think Ray took a trip to California recently to visit Earl regarding this documentary, so I feel sure it is with his approval. Also, Earl has been back to Virginia for at least one reunion since the falling out with the museum. He also returned to Schuyler for a book signing when he biography was published.

Does anyone know the title of the biography? I would like to read it. I have quiet a few of Earl Hamner's books and have really enjoyed them. Did you know that he is part Italian on his mother's side?

That ancestor came from Italy to help with the vineyards. I think at Monticello.

That ancestor came from Italy to help with the vineyards. I think at Monticello. That's where he got the idea for the tv show, Falcon Crest, I think it was. The family name was Gianinni. That's why I laughed when someone mentioned that they saw the Waltons eating spaghetti in an episode and most people wouldn't have been eating that in 1930s Virginia. But for Earl Hamner's family, I'm sure it wasn't unusual.

I thought the same thing about the spaghetti but knowing there was an Italian background it does make sense. I think Earl Hamner said his family came from Luca, Italy. If I have that correctly. He talked about it in an interview on the front steps of the Hamner house. The video is somewhere on YouTube.
