Marcia Woolery was an evil female who pushed John boy over a cliff and broke his collar-bone. Heh heh heh, yes, I think that was one of the funniest scenes in the whole series! But I still wouldn't say the females were any worse than the males. They all do bad things at times, but for me at least, none of them came across as worse than the others.

Exactly Daniela and awesome, AR 15 and Jeri Jet, everyone makes some good points. And it is entertainment, not a real family and I personally didnt see a lot of hatefulness in the Waltons towards each other or aqnyone else mostly but those are families like yours and mine, well not exactly theyre on television and I dont think the Waltons were as ridiculous as a soap opera but entertainment keeps us watching. Dallas wouldnt have been on the air more than a few episodes if they were all nice and now its in its second series. Take care talk soon WmFan

I don't think that any of them intend to be outwardly rude and spiteful to anyone, Yes maybe there are times they plot to do stuff but you will notice over the seasons that they never really do those things. Yes they might tempt it. Yes they might even mange it but you will notice that they always feel terrible afterwards and make up.
I think that they are just normal family relationships. I know not all of these are good but yet they are Just Normal,
I have 1 older sister 2 younger brothers and a younger sister I can say from experience that I have been very spiteful to my brothers in the past (and sometimes I still am) But I never mean it.
I'm not pretending to be perfect I know that I'm not And I still do sometimes harber spiteful thoughts just as the Walton girls do.
I am not disagreeing with you the Waltons girl's are sometimes spiteful and yes I do agree that MaryEllen could have found a better way to explain to David about not wanting to Marry him but sometimes you do panic and say things at the wrong time Don't you.
There are times on The Waltons that I think they could do with being disciplined but aren't there times when all kids-teenagers do that?
I have certainly embarrassed myself with rude behavior more then I would like to have but that's normal.
Isn't that why we watch the Waltons Because they betray a normal way of family living?
The Walton kids aren't so badly behaved that they go around slamming doors calling their parents stupid idiots constantly swearing as kids of this world and on tv today do?
But at the same time there kids aren't so perfect that they drive you around the bend?
I think they show a wonderful way of family living a way that TV today doesn't show.
And that's why even though they have there days we all like them like we do.
Thats what I think anyway.

This is something I never really noticed, at least their behavior was nothing out of the ordinary. I watched the show because it gave me a good feeling inside. If there was that hatefulness, I would never have got that good feeling.
I wasn't fond of Mary Ellen's behavior in the first 2 seasons, such a complainer and a brat. I almost wished bad things happened to her so I could cheer. But Mary Ellen was just trying to fins herself & grew up and became a very fine mother.
There were instances where Ben like prodding Jim Bob or Jason or his sisters, but it was just regular family stuff.

As an only child I've never had brothers and sisters and neither has my mom or some of my close family, a number of only children or a couple with a few brothers and sisters but cetainly not like the Waltons. I kind of live vicariously through their experience and they were good people with their ups and downs but no hatefulness that I see I dont like that word. My thoughts. WmFan

I liked oue Waltons Marcia better than Marcia Brady on the Brady Bunch who most everyone loved. Marcia Woolrey was fickle, but certainly not evil. You saw that later in the Estrangemewnt when she was picked on and used ruthlessly by her fiance. One of my favorite John Boy lines was She is not marrying that. He may not have loved Marcia, but he cared about her and she cared about him. The scene on the mountain was just an accident between two lovers quarreling and she did run for help. She could have left him stranded. That is not the act of an evil person. Wm Fan

I don't understand this one. Maybe it's because I'm just a guy. Mary Ellen: Mary Ellen Walton is essentially one of the boys until she's married off. She rebels at mom and grandma for trying to mold her into the traditional woman of Walton's mountain. I liked her better that way but, she certainly is not hateful after she becomes Mrs. Willard. Erin: She's the romantic in the family and therefore the Walton most anxious to marry herself off the mountain. I certainly don't see that as hateful. Elizabeth: She seems more comfortable around her brothers (especially the "two hyphens": John-Boy and Jim-Bob) than her sisters. Kami Cotler said she was both the most teased and most spoiled member of the cast. I suspect the same could be said for Elizabeth. It's hard to find hate in the Waltons.

I actually think John-Boy was the one who led the girls along because he was happy to have a girlfriend/be in love but he was never going to put a ring on any of their fingers as he was too ambitious to get away and be a writer. If you were his girlfriend in school, as Marcia was, you just knew it would not go anywhere. Daisy came pretty close to being his wife, but in the end he chose to go overseas on assignment rather than marry her and stay closer to home. He could have gotten a job on a local newspaper, travelled for occasional assignments, still penned his books and television was just around the corner anyway...I honestly think he made the wrong choice not to marry Daisy. I never warmed to Janet, she just does not suit him in my eyes.

Now that I think of it, they all had their fair share of romance troubles! Olivia with the painter guy. John with that women when Olivia was away. Grand pop with that woman in the boarding house. CoraBeth with the new minister. The list goes on and on!

I thought the one truely hateful act committed by a Walton girl was when Elizabeth told those two english children (The Children's Carols) that they were to be sent back to the children's home because she knew they'd run away and she'd get to be the 'baby' of the family again. That was very nasty behaviour on behalf of Elizabeth and Olivia should have punished her severely for it because I am convinced Elizabeth lied when she explained why she told them - she knew they'd run away and she knew they'd NOT like to be sent back. She was a jealous little minx when she wanted to be....strange though how she never got jealous of John-Curtis though when he came along.

The theme of Elizabeth's jealousy started in the very first episode, when she was jealous of Holly. Then there was the time when Olivia was a substitute teacher, and Elizabeth had to sit on her lap all day because "she's the baby of our family and she's not used to sharing me with so many children" (Olivia's explanation to the superintendent). I think they tried to keep Elizabeth a baby far too long. Kami was so talented and such a good actress, I think they should have come up with some more appropriate roles for her. She did grow up to be quite the responsible teenager, especially considering her mother, then her father, left her to be raised by her older siblings.

In some shows I think it's common to keep the youngest child as a baby for too long. I can think of several examples in the older shows I used to watch. Either that or they add a new kid who is even younger. Must be good for the ratings coz they keep doing it.

What drives me crazy about some shows is they will have a baby. Then a few shows later or the next season, the baby will now be three to seven years old but none of the older children have aged at all!
I would be like: Mom, Dad - Chrissy was just born eight months ago. She has grew and aged rapidly. She looks five years old, walking, talking and writing. Am I gonna wake up and find that I have aged four years too? Is it something genetic? Does it run in the family?
