Today Hallmark has had several of the Waltons movies in a marathon. I have seen most of them at some point, but caught bits and pieces throughout the day.
Does anyone know how much "truth" there is to the storylines in the movies? For example, did Earl Hamner's wife ("Janet" in the movies) really have trouble accepting how much Walton's Mountain meant to John Boy? Did Elizabeth really travel all over the world? Did Jason's children really have names after famous country music singers?
I'm not sure if anyone can really answer this, or if it has ever been brought up at one of the reunions... but it would be nice to know if there is truly a continuation of the Hamner family in the various films.

Bumping up an old thread, to see if there is any insight here... Thanks!

The character of Jason was based on Earl's brother - Clifton Hamner. Clifton's children are not named after famous country music singers - that was purely for TV. Their names are Diane, Clifton Jr. and Donna.

I don't think the movies had much if any basis in reality. Throughout the series, though, there were snippets of truth that served as the basis for storylines. For example, Earl says he had a crush on his teacher, but he was much younger than John-Boy. I think he was in the 6th grade.
