I noticed in the early episodes now being shown on INSP that John sometimes called his father Papa and other times Grandpa(even when the kids aren't around). In later episodes he called him Pa. Just wondering if others have a variety of names for their parents and grandparents. My husband calls his mother by her first name!

I call my parents Mother and Daddy. When I was little it was Mommy and Daddy.I can't remember when I changed to mother. I've always called my mom's parents Grandma and Pop Pop and my dad's parents Grandmom and Grandpop. I also knew my great grandmother, my mom's maternal grandmother. I always called her Grandmother.

I sure don't remember John calling Zeb 'Papa'. I'll have to listen closer. I've watched the entire series maybe 12 times now.
I called my folks Dad, Mom or Mother. Grandparents were Grandpa and Grandma.

It is interesting to see the many variations here. This is the first time I have ever heard the term Mamaw or Papaw used. Is it more of a regional term by chance, like southern, perhaps? I like it. I am from the Midwest and no one I know uses it. My husband and I always called our parents Mom and Dad and our grandparents Grandma and Grandpa and most all other people in our area do the same. I have a niece that called my parents Grossmama and Grosspapa because of my father's German heritage. My Italian friends always called their grandmothers "Nona."

I called my Grandmas by their name Grandma Betty on my moms side and Grandma Ginnie on my dads side. My Grandpas I had nicknames for I called my moms dad my Grandpa Bim or Bim my nickname said when I was little cause I couldn't say his real name Vernon. My other Grandpa I called Banker Bob until he retired because he was the president of a bank. They are all gone now and I miss them dearly. Sometimes I use the Walton's to go back to their childhood era even though they were different. My mom has always been Mom. My real father hasn't been much a part of my life. WmFan Paul
I had 4 great grandparents as well. My great Granpa Goode saw me as a baby and died when I was two He wasGrandpa Bobs father. And I had three great grandmothers. The first one died when I was 11 and the last one died when I was 20, My Grandma Ginnie did a lot of genealogy in our family and they went back to the days of Charlemenge in the 12 th century. Ben Frankilin and the Mayflower settlers were distant relatives too

Like forum member sdw, I also called both sets of my grandparents mamaw & papaw. They are all gone now & I really miss them. I also knew my great grandmother & great grandfather (my momma's paternal grandparents) but we all called them granny & papaw Harv. I was nearly 20 years old when my granny died & somewhere between 28 & 32 years old when my papaw Harv died. I never cared much for my granny because she treated my brother & I like an after thought. Several of her grandkids were the same age as us great grandkids. My brother & I spent a lot of time with them while growing up. At Christmas my granny always bought her grandkids nice new things, my brother & I always got things that were worn out & dirty...stuff that just should have been thrown in the trash. I'll never forget one Christmas eve she gave me a purse that honestly looked like it had been stomped on, ran through the dirt & then drove over by a car several times. It was all nasty & dirty inside & there was even used Kleenex on the inside of it! I would have rather just been given a dime or nothing at all. Papaw Harv just grunted at us because watching wrestling on TV was more important to him & next in line was his yard. He kept it immaculate. When I was about 12 years old my granny got a poodle & it's name was already Kim, growing up everyone called me Kim. It never failed that when I was over her house that she would call, "Kim!" The poodle & I would always go to her & every time it was the poodle that she was calling for, never once was I the Kim she wanted. I could not have asked for better grandparents though...they loved me dearly & I loved them with all my heart. They more than made up for the love & attention my granny & papaw harv never showed me. When my mother-in-laws children were getting married she went ahead & let us all know that when the grandchildren started coming, she wanted to be called granny. As time went by she came to know about my 'granny' & my thoughts/memories of her. When we finally did start getting our kids (after 11 years of marriage), I asked her if it would be alright for them to call her nanny (which is close to the name granny) because she was so loving, kind & sweet. All I could picture in my mind was my granny who was none of that to me. She understood as she had a grandmother that never treated her well. So all of her grandkids called her granny except for mine & they called her nanny. My kids call my momma mamaw. Sometimes my kids slip up & call my momma nanny. My momma always says, "I'm no nanny goat!" I have always called my parents momma & daddy.

In my family, it is somewhat customary to call people what the youngest generation call them. Similar to how Olivia always called them Grandma and Grandpa. When I was a kid, I called my parents "Mom and Dad". Now that my brother has two daughters, I call them "Nanny and Papa". I called both of my grandmothers Gram and when I needed to distinguish between them one was "Gram" and the other was "Gram down the farm" because she lived on a farm. I was a very to the point child. I had just one grandfather, and he was Pap or Pappy. Today, only one of my grandparents survive and I call her either "Gram" or "More Gram" because that is what my nieces call her. Its about half/half what I use and there is no rhyme or reason for it.

We simply called our parents, Mom and Dad. Our grandparents (both sets) were Grandmom and Grandad. The grandparents' names were dictated by our parents and we were never asked what we would like to call them. Cut and dry. Becoming a grandmother myself, I choose 'Nan' and my husband wanted 'Pop' Well, he is 'Pop' but I became 'Nanny' Oh well. In the end it's not what they call you, but that they call. That's what's important

Mommy and Daddy, later Mom and Dad (occasionally Pop). Paternal grandparents -- Meemah and Pa.... I think Meemah may be Dutch. Maternal grandparents -- Grandma and Grandpa.
I remember John Sr. calling Zeb "Pop" or "Pa" .... but don't remember Papa ??
