Hi, this TV reunion movie from May 1982 is the cause of the Charlie controversy. Ben and Cindy had a baby son in this movie who disappeared from the reunion movies in the 1990s without any mention. This movie also marked the return of Michael Learned in a limited role that she filmed separately from the rest of the cast other than Judy Norton who appeared with her. I believe that Michael filmed her scenes on the set of "Nurse," which she was starring in at the time and for which she obtained her fourth Emmy Award for lead actress in a drama series. Michael had not appeared in "The Waltons" since the episode "A Decade of the Waltons" in May 1980.
Happy Mothers Day to all! Here in Ecuador I am far from my mother who lives in PA, so for those of you who can celebrate with your mothers in person, please do so for those of us who cannot. Thanks. Blessings also to all those whose mothers are no longer with us.

Blessings also to all those whose mothers are no longer with us. My mother died in 1988, four months short of 50th wedding anniversary.... Mothers Day was a problem for me for a while, but now am able to celebrate, even rejoice along with all children. I've been meaning to ask you where you grew up -- how your access to NYC came about.... were you in PA?? And, where in PA does your mom live? Thanks, J

In this movie she has been told she can't have any more children. In later movies she has two children with Jonesey.

We don't have GMC with our cable so plan to watch "Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain" on our DVD collection on Sunday evening. (So glad to have that collection!) It's been quite a long while since I have seen this special, so I'm looking forward to catching up again after spending a lovely Mother's Day with my mom. Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's here on the forum. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

That is a good point, Carol. Don't you "love" those discrepancies in the reunion movies. Actually unnerving as if the fans have such short memories, and that was before the DVDs were released. HA!
Jet, thanks for the answer in the other post. That is so neat about working with Yul Brynner. I'm sure you have a few stories to tell about that. I started going to NYC to see shows on my own in the early 90s when I was working at a bank. The first one I saw was (surprise) the second "Annie" sequel, "Annie Warbucks" off-Broadway. I also saw the first sequel, "Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge" in its run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, but it never made it to Broadway. Dorothy Loudon, Marian Seldes, and the rest tried very hard (as Marian told me when I met her years later in NYC),but it could not be saved. One of my first NYC shows was "Victor Victoria" with Julie Andrews. Although I am glad that I saw Julie (and I understand that you would describe her voice as small compared with a belter like Mary Martin), the show itself was rather a dud, and it is sad that Julie lost her voice shortly after her run in VV ended. So NYC, the theatres, the museums, the opera have called me back many times.
Yes, I grew up in PA, in Birdsboro, near Reading, so about three hours away by bus, which is my preferred method of transportation to the Big Apple. I love to read on the way and talk to people. The last time I was there with my wife and two children (now we have four). We enjoyed going to the toy store FAO Schwartz featured in "Big" and walking through Central Park. My parents still live in PA, and we hope to visit them in the summer. Their health has not be too good the past couple years since we came here.
Thanks for writing, and be well.

My mum passed away in September 2012, 4 days after we celebrated her 99th birthday with her so this is a sad mother's day for me here in Australia in one way but in another its a celebration as our family and very close friends have returned this weekend from Hawaii after celebrating my son's wedding on a beautiful beach on the island of Oahu. To make it extra special, a very precious photograph of my mum taken on her birthday with her family accomanpied us on our trip and was present at the wedding of my son. I miss her every minute of every day but treasure all the wonderful memories we all have of her, she was indeed a remarkable lady.

I wondered about PA because my older sister has a home about 30 miles north of Scranton (so, nowhere near you!).... and, of course I looked up Birdsboro -- not too far from Philadelphia, one of my favorite cities.... was able to spend a bit of time with a good friend who lived there for a while.... loved her apt -- one of the oldest apt bldgs in Phila.... up behind the art museum.... she had views of the small boathouses and sculls on the Schuykill.... Are you enjoying Ecuador? How did you end up there?? Thanks again for the good chats, J

Hi again, and thank YOU Jet for sharing part of your journey with us. It is interesting that you mention Scranton. My wife, children and I live in Ecuador and serve with Liebenzell Mission USA in the city of Ibarra. I coordinate a local teaching site of Miami International Seminary and also work as station manager of Radio Punto. After college I lived in Mexico for two years because I was between jobs. I lived with Mexican families and fell in love with Latin American culture and the chance to make an impact in people's lives meeting and serving them where they are. I returned to PA in 1991 and worked in backing and Spanish language education until I went on a short medical missions trip as a translator in 1998. That is when I met my wife Marisol. We corresponded for three years and I made occasional trips to visit until moving here in 2001. We married in 2002 and Joel our oldest son was born in 2003, almost exactly 12 months later. Marisol started the visa process immediately after our wedding, to return with me to the USA so that I could finish my Master of Divinity. Well, we hade a harrowing nightmare with what was then INS and did not receive Marisol's residency visa until May 2004 during which the immigration agents lost our paperwork once and we had to start over. There also was NO response to emails or phone messages at the US embassy, so I can relate to people who are trying to do the process legally. It is almost impossible, and I tell people to bear in mind that I AM A US CITIZEN asking for permission to take my LEGAL spouse to the US. Hopefully immigration reform will happen, but who knows. So many people are against it.
Sorry, off my soapbox now. We moved to PA in June 2004 and I went back to seminary and finished in May 2006. Our mission asked us to move to Guam to serve as instructor and assistant dean of men at Pacific Islands University. It was a wonderful place to raise our two children (Amelia came along in December 2005), snorkling, visiting other islands (Palau, Pohnpei, Hawaii, Saipan) as well as Japan. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. That is why we have come to understand better WW2 and even the experiences of fictional Ben Walton as he served in the Pacific during WW2. It is very solemn to visit the actual caves where the Japanese soldiers hid as they were waiting for the American marines to land as well as the guns situated in the hills and still pointed towards the beaches for the counterattack. It took the US marines three years before defeating the Japanese in Guam, and the war in the Pacific theatre continued on for more than another year. Interesting, there was one Japanese soldier (Soichi Yokoi) who hid from 1944 until he was discovered in 1972, 28 years total. He wanted to respect his commanding officers' order never to surrender. Fascinating story of human survival. We also took our children to visit the site of the concentration camps where the Japanese forced the people of Guam to stay with minimal food during the occupation of Guam. Real suffering took place on both sides. That is why July 21 (1944)is Liberation Day in Guam (commemmorating the marines' arrival in Guam to begin the liberation), and the people have such a strong respect for the US military because of what they and their ancestors faced. We left Guam on June 30, 2010, to begin the process of moving back to Ecuador. On the way back to PA we stopped to visit friends in Hawaii and saw Pearl Harbor which helped us to understand that part of "The Waltons" also: Mary Ellen's grieving when Curt was killed, I know, only to be resurrected later. We saw the USS Arizona memorial and went oboard the USS Missouri where Japanese surrendered to the USA on September 2, 1945. That episode,"Day of Infamy" in season 7, means even more to me now. Very touching and well written, especially the part that Grandma (Ellen Corby) played. You can read more about my thoughts about Curt's "resurrection" in the General Board post about "Grandma Comes Home". Being there at the USS Arizona memorial gave us a greater respect for what our servicemen and women have faced as they have served the USA over the years as well as the sobering loss of life. As we say in Ecuador, "mil respetos", or "a thousand respects". They and their families have endured many sacrifices.
I know, I regressed. All that to say that after returning to PA after our service in Guam we lived near Scranton at Missionary Retreat Fellowship in Lake Ariel. We loved it there. It was about a two hour drive to my parents' house. We plan to live there again when we are in the USA from summer 2015 to summer 2016. Every four years we need to be in our home country for a year to report to churches who support us financially and visit friends, family and other supporters. For us it is a challenge because we have roots in two countries. Marisol and our four children (twins Jacob and Elías were born on January 28, 2012) have dual US/Ecuadorian citizenship. Although I am a legal resident of Ecuador, I am not a citizen here. It keeps us alert to make sure that all this paperwork (double passports for everyone but me) is up to date.
We also visited in Grafton, West Virginia, the Anna Jarvis House (birthplace). Anna Jarvis petitioned Woodrow Wilson and Congress for many years to establish Mother's Day as an official holiday, succeeding finally in 1914 Anna is commonly known as the international founder of Mother's Day. She died in West Chester, PA, in 1948. Appropriate trivia for this day.
Sorry for my roundabout, long answer. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I like to talk about our time in the Pacific. You probably figured that out! HA!
Blessings to everyone!

nedandres.... Just a quick note about PA.... the town near which my older sister lives 6-7 months a year is Montrose -- in "The Endless Mountains" -- and she has often mentioned her church, Montrose Christian Fellowship (I think).... They are trying to sell that house and even mention this particular church in the real estate ads -- it seems there are huge conferences, attended by thousands.... Have you heard of it ??
Thanks, Jet

Yes, I am familiar with Montrose. There is a big Christian retreat conference center there, although I haven't been to it. We didn't get too far away from where we were staying during our year there, other than to visit my parents in Birdsboro. Sorry I can't give you more information about it.
