I wonder if any of the cast members of The Waltons went to Will Geer funeral when he died,or a memorial service. I liked Will Geer when he was on The Love Boat,he befriended a runaway that was in his room,he decided at the end,he would be her foster parent.I also liked him when he was on Eight is Enough where he befriended Nicklos, and he stoled almost all of the Bradfords Christmas Christmas.Did Will Geer guest star in anymore tv shows, while he was on The Waltons.

Your best source for other tv shows/movies he was in would probably be imdb.com -- it will give you all parts that Geer played, by year.... And, you can probably "bet the ranch" that much of the cast attended his memorial service.... if he didn't specifically NOT WANT one.... (somehow he seems that type, to me....)

I looked under the web sites you told me about, which was very interesting.I didn't know that Will and Ellen were in a movie together while they were on The Waltons,It was called Napoleon and Samantha.Allthe cast members had guest starring roles on other shows during the years The Waltons was on.

Crowds have continued to gather each summer at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, since the Geer family has extended Will’s tradition of presenting Shakespeare plays, folksinging, acting lessons – even cause benefits. And it is on those sunny afternoons, when music and laughter are carried through the theater’s gardens on warm, gentle breezes, that Will Geer’s spirit still presides – alive and well.
Not sure if I have done this right but after reading the article posted about Will Geer I was touched by the last paragraph. Wouldnt it be just wonderful to attend one of these events. NOt an option for me though - I live in Australia!

I came close to visiting Geer's Topanga Canyon site in the early 70's.... but the Charlie Manson story was still too fresh in my mind, so I skipped it.... What a stupid fool I was not to seize the opportunity.... Of course, Geer started up his theatre/gardens almost 20 years before Manson "defiled" the canyon area, but it was very upsetting back then, for those of you who remember those times.....
I believe Brenda mentioned she had been there... ??

Yes, I've been there twice, in 2007 and in 2012. If you're ever in that part of California, you should go.

What a great place Will Geer's theatre company has! When my family and I went in CA in 2004 for the Waltons reunion, we spent an afternoon there, enjoying the plants, trees and flowers, swinging on the Walton type swing (like on the front porch) and seeing Ellen Geer (Will's daughter) and the rest of the players) rehearsing. We left practice them in peace, not wanting to interrupt. It's a wonderful place in a rather isolated area of CA! Highly recommend it.

It's in the Topanga Canyon, CA -- just google Geer and you'll see lots of sites to visit, with good info about his theatre/garden which started up in 1951 when he couldn't find a job !! Hope you enjoy the forum

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but when I was there last October, it seemed to me that upkeep was lacking somewhat at the Theatricum Botanicum, compared to what it looked like in 2007. Things just didn't seem as neat as before, lots of unnecessary weeds, dead plants, etc. Maybe it was just me, but that is how I felt about it. Also, I didn't see anyone there. We just walked right in and walked all around the property with no one to question us or anything. There was nothing going on at the time, though, so maybe that's why it seemed so deserted.
When I was there in 2007, there was someone near the entrance who stopped us and talked to us and asked us if she could help us. It was a Sunday afternoon, and there was Hap Palmer children's performance going on at the time, so that is probably why she was there. When we told her we were Waltons fans, she said that Ellen wasn't there, but she would be there later, and she would probably want to meet us, because she loved to talk to fans of her father. We didn't wait around, though. Now I wish we had.
Still, it is a very quiet and peaceful place, and I recommend anyone who has an opportunity to go there. You can almost feel the presence of Grandpa Walton there.

Hmm, it does look like a cheap roadside attraction. That's too bad. I would stop by if I was in the area, but I would not make a special trip.

I'm not sure that "cheap roadside attraction" is the best description, but I know what you mean. I definitely would not hop on a plane and fly to California just to see this place, but since I was in the area anyway, I wanted to stop by. It was my way of paying my respects to the memory of a great man. And maybe what they have there is what Will would have wanted, a natural setting, not a manicured park. Here is the website for anyone who is interested. This year is the 40th anniversary of the Theatricum Botanicum. Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum
