Do we ever learn what the J and the D stand for?

I'm not sure that we did. My guess would be Jefferson Davis.

Just Dandy? I liked JD for some reason. One of my favorite regulars.

According to the galesburg-atkins website, we first learn of Jefferson Davis Pickett, Sr., in Season 1, Ep14 "The Minstrel" -- his son is "J.D." (heir to the mfg. company)....
I liked his character, but never could have worked for him !!

I liked his character, but never could have worked for him !! I always wondered if "Old Man Pickett" was connected to J. D. Pickett. I think though, that that is pure speculation. As far as I know, there's not any mention of other Picketts in that story, as I watched it paying extra attention to see if he was connected to J. D. though it is an interesting theory nonetheless ;D

Ah, that's very interesting! Perhaps the connection between the two is made in The Illusion then... (an episode I have not seen in some time)

I think JD added some humor to the show and his chemistry with Erin was great.

(an episode I have not seen in some time) It's unfortunate that this entry is not more thorough or better documented. Sometimes the galesburg stuff is very well documented, sometimes not.... I suspect it depends on when it was in his quest that he added the info. I know when I started trying to do a timeline, I covered much before I realized I should have all along been notating in which episode I discovered something. Also, you go through periods of sheer exhaustion trying to note everything, so you just get lazy!! The thing is, I doubt he would have simply speculated -- he picked up this iinfo somewhere in the episodes.....

I think JD added some humor to the show and his chemistry with Erin was great. JD and Erin were good sparring partners yes, a good back and forth intensity between them. Erin definitely knew how to handle this man compared to her romances. As for JD s name probably Jefferson Davis for a Civil War person was it, but like BJ on MASH his initials were kind of a mystery

The thing is, I doubt he would have simply speculated -- he picked up this iinfo somewhere in the episodes..... Bill Atkins, author of the Galesburg website, is the one who, along with Arthur Dungate from the UK, wrote those very detailed episode synopses that I often refer to on this forum. They wrote these back in the 1990s, or at least that's when they put them online. It is amazing to me how meticulous Mr. Atkins was in including so many details from every single episode, especially when you consider that this was before the series came out on DVD. It could be that some of the things on his site were pure speculation on his part, but I usually accept what he says as fact, considering all the detail he put into that episode guide.

When I've tried to put one in with my comment the last few days, it has erased my comment and just left the smiley Look at the menu at the top of this text box, where you can format text, etc. At the far right you see a smiley. Click on it, and you'll get options for different smileys. Click on the one you want, and it should appear in your message. ***Edited to say that you see the menu when you are writing a post, not reading one.
