I agree with PLP927 and Brenda. Those two would be my first and second choice. My third choice would be the recasting of A.J. Covington. The second actor did not come close to David Huddleston's brilliant portrayal of Covington in The Literary Man. this and the whole story about what really happened to Curt. This was a total mistake. Was the part of Curt written out or did Tom Bower want out? And recasting Curt was salt in the wound. my biggest shock was Will Geer's passing. another disappointment was the way the grandchildren were "mysterly" done away with in the movies.

Tom Bower (Curt) told us at the California Walton Reunion in 2012 that he wanted more money to continue on The Waltons, so they had him die at Pearl Harbor. When they decided to do the episode that had Curt alive, they approached Tom about reprising the role of Curt again. Tom asked for more money than they were willing to pay, so they recast the role. That was straight from Tom Bower's lips to my ears.

I wonder if any of the TV/movie people think after the fact "that we should have paid him/her what they wanted?

In the series Aimee was the same age as Elizabeth. In the three reunion movies in the 80's she was at least two years older than Elizabeth. In A Day For Thanks On Waltons Mountain Aimee was going to Boatwright College, she came home from there for Thanksgiving and met JB's girlfriend on the bus and Elizabeth was still a junior in high school.

I never thought they were exactly the same age ??... perhaps I just never thought about it, but couldn't there have been a year or two difference from the beginning ?

I wonder if any of the TV/movie people think after the fact "that we should have paid him/her what they wanted? I think the producers sort of liked the idea of Curt being killed at Pearl Harbor -- for the "drama" -- so they really didn't have that much problem losing Tom Bower.... bringing Bower back for the "resurrection" wouldn't have made much difference, since it was covered in only two episodes and would never be a continuing, popular role anyway....
I strongly feel, however, that they made a huge mistake killing Curt off in the first place -- one of my favorite roles on the show, and Tom Bower aced it ! ... they should have paid him the money ! ... perhaps they were indeed sorry when they started struggling to come up with good storylines later in the series.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened with the show had he stayed. Would love to know what the original long-term "vision" for that character was.

I just watched "Empty Nest". It was very disappointing that John Boy/Richard Thomas played no part in sayng goodbye to Grandpa Walton. That was a huge omission which is impossible to justify

I actually like the new John Boy they added later in the series, never saw a big deal with it.
One thing that bothered me even more than Curt 2.0, however, was the absence of Olivia and John at the end of the series. I know the actors had to leave to do other stuff, but even in certain instances like Jim-Bob's graduation, for example, we never even got a phone call. I'd like to think John and Liv would be more thoughtful than that.
It was also irritating how more small-minded the family got when the adults left, though I suppose that's more of an accurate portrayal of how life was back then.

Ralph Waite who played John was still on The Waltons when Jim Bob graduated. He didn't leave the series until sometime during the last season.I would have been nice if Olivia would have least been at Jim Bob graduation or even called.

Yes, John was at Jim-Bob's graduation. In fact, he brought Grandma Walton to the occasion.

Was watching an episode last night and Olivia had her hair in a pony tail! That was a shock! Just did not seem right.

Just watched The empty nest. Likely this will be the final season I watch. The series really changed and not to the better. With cast members leaving...it just didnt have the "feel" the previous seasons had. I will take a break and then start watching season one again. Then all will be well in Walton world!

I often wish we could do the same thing in our own lives--revisit happier times whenever we wanted.
