LOL at the Fan Club Dinner Tom said he asked for more money and got sent to Pearl Harbor. When they decided to bring Curt back he asked again for the higher amount and they hired the other guy LOL.
I agree that if they coudn't get Tom they should have scrapped the whole idea of bringing Curt back.
I know Richard was horribly busy but I think recasting John-Boy was a mistake. If Richard wasn't able to preshoot scenes to insert into episodes (why not?) they should have just left the character offscreen. JMO
Sending Amie off to boarding school seemed like a horrible waste of storyline potential.
I also hated the inconsistencies in the reunion movies. Awful. Very well said Heather!

I always thought it was "odd" that they sent Aimee off to boarding school. They had waited so long for a child & then when they got her she was already half-grown. Why would you not want to be with them & enjoy what few years you had left before they were grown?
Of course, Corabeth wanted what she thought was "grander" things for Aimee but I found out at the reunions in California that the reason in real life was that Rachel Longaker (who played Aimee Godsey), her family moved away & they said that it was inconvient for her to travel that far for filming.
Would be interesting to know why her family moved, seems like they would have wanted their daughter to continue to be on "The Waltons" on a regular basis. Probably had to move for their employment.

I suspect that, for some of the actors, the show wasn't the "be all and end all"..... folks have other priorities in life sometimes.... and many of them did not go on to busy acting careers, by choice or by circumstances..... As for Richard Thomas, he has moved so far beyond the show that, although I'm sure he still appreciates he had that opportunity early on, things like the fan club reunions are simply not on his short list of important things to do at this point in his life. And, I don't think there is anything wrong with that.... He probably never gets to his "long list." -- There may have even been times in his life when he felt sick of being remembered mainly as John-Boy..... Although it may "hurt" us, we need to be understanding and support his current endeavors as much as we can, if we love him.

Very well said also Jeri Jet. Richard Thomas career goes far beyond the Walton's but he'll always be John Boy.

My biggest disappointment was their failure in later seasons to keep a consistent *bleep*ing timeline! Sometimes people didn't even bother to have their clothes, hair, and makeup done properly for the time period!

We are fortunate that Richard returned to film the special guest appearances in season 6. The one about the coal mine cave-in never impressed me too much. I thought it seemed far-fetched. The second one with Dierdre Lenihan as Daisy was more realistic to me. Richard said that he never had any intention of doing "The Waltons" for more than five years, and he turned out to be a man of his word.
Perhaps the producers wanted Ellen Corby to get her own time in the limelight. With Richard there, the attention on her possibly would have been less. Just a thought.
One of the biggest shocks for me was when Michael Learned left the second time. I find it hard that Olivia would have left the rest of the family to be with John-Boy. Ralph Waite's exit made more sense, since John was moving to be with Olivia.

I went a bit in the episode The Volunteer (series 6) when Erin goes to visit G.W at the army camp and he walks her to her room after dinner and leaves Erin in no doubt that he wants them to go to bed together. I mean, that's not the G.W we knew and I reckon he'd not have tried that on with Mary Ellen! And I am always a little when I see the way Patsy Rahn was dressed for the character of Betsy Randolph in The Silver Wings (series 8). Quite provocative for the era and for the show too. The reaction of some of the family when Toni reveals she is Jewish always takes me aback, especially that of Ben and Cindy. Ben was never made out to be particularly 'baptist' in the show then all of a sudden he goes all bigoty on Jason.

One of mine happened in the "movies", not the series: Paul & Erin getting divorced!!!!!!!!!! I was really sad and disappointed with their divorce as well! Although, I feel that their marriage/relationship was a little troubled from the start... and Ashley Longworth, JR didn't help!I have never seen the movie special where Erin gets married. We often get the reunion movies played back to back on a weekend however Erin's wedding special is never aired and I don't know why. I'd love to see it especially as its a Walton instalment that would be brand new to me and how often can we say that?

I would have to say the whole "Curt's not really dead" storyline. And the total disregard for continuity in the reunion movies. Hey there, producers and writers, did you totally forget that the show was set during the 30's and 40's. So if John and Olivia had their 40th wedding anniversary in 1969/70, that means they didn't get married until after Elizabeth was born. It means Grandma was over 100 years old in that year. Not an impossibility, but still. In one of those movies, John says "It's been 15 years since you died, Pa". I've never been real good at math, but even I know there is more than 15 years between 1941 and 1970. They seemed to totally forget that John Curtis or Charlie ever existed. And another thing about those later reunion movies. John was always blowing his stack if Ben decided on any thing about the business on his own. Were they not supposed to be equal partners? For heavens sake, Ben would have been as old as John was when the series started. And he was running it on his own, when he was in his 20's when John accompanied Olivia to Arizona. Frankly it made John seem like a total control freak.

The general concensus seems to be the return of Curt. I agree especially after they had the episode "The Medal"where Mary Ellen was given a medal that was awarded to Curt posthumously and was told how he died a hero saving another soldier. Why couldn't they have left him a dead hero.
Also the last three reunion movies where John Curtis and Charlie disappear without a trace and Virginia dead and no explanation given as to why and Cindy going on as if Virginia was still a baby or a toddler, when in fact she would have been at least 18 years old by then. At the end of the movie Ben and Cindy were going to go to an orphanage to adopt. In the last two movies there is no adopted baby and no Cindy either.

Why couldn't they have left him a dead hero. And utterly failed to explain or reconcile the two stories! Was his buddy completely mistaken or lying about Curt's actions at Pearl Harbor, or was Curt's head injury so bad he got his own story absolutely wrong?

Since the army identified Curt's body and informed Mary Ellen of his death why wasn't his body sent to Mary Ellen for burial?

Since the army identified Curt's body and informed Mary Ellen of his death why wasn't his body sent to Mary Ellen for burial? Curt was hanging out with Jimmy Hoffa, Elvis , Amelia Earthart on the island of misfit toys until he and his volleyball friend "Wilson" built a raft to escape. (Wilson) why is Elvis Costello on this island, Frank? (Frank) no, wrong one, buddy! (Wilson) You mean Abbott and Costello are here? OK Frank... Who's on first? (Frank) shut up, Wilson (Wilson) What"s on second ? Frank grabs Wilson and kicks him hard, and Wilson flies away high into the clouds. (Frank) Home run, Wilson! Goodbye!!!

Since the army identified Curt's body and informed Mary Ellen of his death why wasn't his body sent to Mary Ellen for burial? Guess they decided to take advantage of that giant loophole! That being said, some guys weren't sent back for a couple of years. Look up a biography of and the song about Rodger Young--it's quite a story! The hit song has him buried on the Solomons, which he was when it was written, but about four years later they sent him home to receive a hero's burial.
