Any big "totally shouldn't have happened" or "WHAT!?" when watching or thinking about the series? What's your biggest shock, disappointment or, 'ouch!' within the cast changes, plots, turn-of-events, etc.,?
I think one of the biggest may for me was John-Boy's cast change... though the 'new' one wasn't too bad!

I agree with PLP927 and Brenda. Those two would be my first and second choice. My third choice would be the recasting of A.J. Covington. The second actor did not come close to David Huddleston's brilliant portrayal of Covington in The Literary Man.

It was that Richard Thomas was not in Grandma Comes Home immediatlty after having guest starred in the previous two episodes the Retun and the Revelation. No one knew Will Geer would die following that season, but they knew Ellen Corby was returning to the series from her stroke. They could have invited Richard Thomas back for a small part I think. Disappointing when you consider what was going on in the series at the time WmFanSportwriter

True Jeri Jet, but it's too bad for the series, that it couldn't have worked out.

If I remember correctly they also had an episode where Drew told Elizabeth that he had gotten married. Wasn't it to a girl overseas when he was in the service? Anyway, he said that it didn't work out. That shocked me & disappointed me that they had him "marry" someone else. If they wanted to do that fine, but they should have had her die somehow....(influenza, bombing during the war, in childbirth, etc...) instead of them divorcing. Just my opinion.

You wonder how much they fictionalize or stretch the truth especially in later seasons for tv ratings like the Curt story/recast WmFan
