That really is a brilliant website Steve....you've obviously put a lot of time and care into it. I added it to my bookmarks so I can go back and read it at my leisure

I'll play the neutral role - can't say that it helped or hurt. I do agree with what some others said - that including the war in the show was the right thing to do in terms of American history and the show's story timeline...a natural progression of the era and as the family members grew.
Being a military wife, I can appreciate or relate to some of the story lines for the war. The episode where Curt was killed at Pearl Harbor moved me to tears yet at the same time it bugged me. I think the storyline was rushed or could have been told differently. It would have made more sense to me if Curt died in Europe, perhaps during D-Day. Pearl Harbor is a Navy base and Curt was a doctor in the Army. Yes, I know doctors of all military branches can serve on any military base, but in my mind I couldn't understand why he (and Mary Ellen to follow) were going to Pearl Harbor before the Japanese attacked, before we entered the war. I personally feel the story would have made more sense if Curt was in Europe when he was killed or in the Pacific after Pearl Harbor. Just my opinion. Either way, it was a tragic loss for Mary Ellen and I felt her pain.
Does anyone know if the Curt/Pearl Harbor storyline is based in any way on a real life story for any of Earl Hamner's sisters?
